The comment that I responded to attempted to put the "PPV flop" of Kovalev-Ward onto Ward and RocNation, even though the event was led by Kathy Duva's Main Events and Ward/RocNation's contribution to the fight never seemed to go much beyond having Ward show up on fight night and Roc Nation getting some of their prospects onto the undercard.

The "PPV flop" lays largely with Main Events (almost entirely, due to Main Events not letting Roc Nation contribute substantively to the actual event).

Roc Nation has led three fights for Andre Ward (vs Paul Smith, vs Sullivan Barrera, and vs Alexander Brand), and are leading their first PPV fight for Andre Ward in June. If that flops, you can blame it on Roc Nation.

Beyond this conversation, for a person who claims to have been a fight promoter, a lot ends up being pretty sus.

Did Main Events split the MGM Resorts site fee? What about the sponsorships on the event and international money? And what about the actual PPV proceeds (not a fight promoter, but it's pretty public knowledge that proceeds from the PPV come to the lead promoter(s) for up to 12-14 months after the actual PPV fight)?

at least $9m off of the PPV, $3.7m at the gate, sponsors on the live event, Televisa paying for the Mexican TV rights, Sky Sports outbidding BoxNation for the UK TV rights, and the sizable international TV interest in the fight [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergey...l_broadcasting ], among other things, and you've got a good deal of revenue in play. $7m to the two main event fighters doesn't seem, to me, like all that much of an ask.

RNS got their money up front (giving Andre Ward a bit of a bump out of their pocket), and Main Events seemingly got the proceeds from the event (guaranteeing Kovalev significantly less on the front end); doubt that Main Events opened up their books to Roc Nation

the more you try and pass yourself off as someone knowledgable about fight economics, the more you make it obvious that you are just a troll without a single iota of firsthand knowledge about promoting.

Hint: READING about purse splits and upsides on internet message boards is not "real world" experience, despite your over-inflated sense of self. I actually did it for over a decade, on every platform from dark club shows all the way to HBO PPV, so dont ever think for a second there is a damn thing YOU could ever tell me about promoting, son..............

I guess my theory of two more fights for GGG is holding up. If he beats Canelo(which I think is the likely outcome), he'll fight Saunders (or that other guy) and retire as undisputed middleweight champ.

Just seems like it's lining up perfectly for this outcome. I thought he might be able to squeeze BJS in early, but either way, it's two fights and he's done.

Doubt he'd retire just when he start getting big fights if he's with winning.

Of course bombing ppvs and almost losing to Jacobs made GGG camp realize they are the clear B side and they need to cash out now. They also had pressure of a short window to agree because like I said earlier their stock has fallen and if you wait until the canelo/chavez numbers come back you golden boy will have more amo to lower the offer. I bet they are getting far less then the offer golden boy made months ago for 15m which GGG camp foolishly turned down. They banked on GGG being able to rise his stock and demand more money to fight canelo. But they sobered up to reality when jacobs numbers came and they stopped pricing themselves out.

Just go ahead and change it to big dummy, 75% of people probably see that anyways. You GGG haters are salty, always salty.

They're ignoring that whole part because De La Hoya exposed their ignorance.

I mean what happened here to Canelo fans is quite funny. Canelo and De La Hoya was ****ing them while whispering sweet nothings in their era. All the while taking money out of their purses. A few hundred dollars each later...

What he just did is akin to pulling out, slapping them in their face and saying I lied to you so you'd not notice was was stealing out of your purse. Laughing at it, and saying, we will go on a date now.

And after Canelo gets best up. They'll go back to old men and guys Canelo outweighs.

There are multiple revenue streams on a fight, and there's no way that Alvarez/GBP is going to cut Golovkin in on everything.

$3m is his share on the fight, K2 gets to shop the fight for the best deal in Golovkin's most lucrative home market, and Golovkin gets the back-end upside that his camp thirsted after (relatively simple math puts Golovkin's share at ~15% of the upside).

Main Events was the lead promoter of the event; the money from MGM Resorts, the proceeds from HBO, the proceeds from the international TV, the event sponsors, etc, all went through Main Events. Kovalev-Ward was Main Events' show, full stop.

Kovalev was apparently guaranteed $2m, while Andre Ward was guaranteed $5m. Do you earnestly think that Andre Ward was entitled to a second payout? lol.

Without the hard figures available Main Events cleared at least ~$5m on the PPV, likely near that on the live event (site fee/sponsors/merch less the costs of staging the event), and then you've got the international money.

Guessing at the total proceeds, $12m is likely short of the final take.

$2m to Kovalev, $5m to Ward, and Main Events still would have another $5m to dole out/keep.

Outside of the Paul Smith fight (RocNation getting no TV money, and having to shell out for the BET TV time), RocNation has likely done just fine on Ward's fights.

Main event didn't gtd ward's purse of 5 mil. Which easily equates to a 2m loss for rocnation. I don't want to go through each fight, but i know one of them they paid BET for a time buy, rented some building(gave away 90% of the tickets), and then paid andre ward and his opponent some ridiculous sum. They probably lost 5m on that fight alone, and now they're about to pay him 7m for the rematch. The Andre Ward Roc nation deal is one of the worst in history.
