Too long?
Wilder's size becomes a disadvantage against a guy like Mike.
Timing the **** out of him?
How? Mike would have crouched low and bobbed and weaved, whilst throwing lightening fast combinations with ferocity.
It would have been incredibly difficult for Wilder to have timed him.Comment

Tucker, Green, Biggs were all 6'5" and seasoned pros when they fought Tyson. Tucker would later go on to fight the distance with a prime Lewis, so applying your logic, either Tucker was that good or Lewis was overrated, choose one.
Biggs was an Olympic Gold Medalist, he beat Lewis in the amateurs and had over 100 fights. So there goes your amateur pedigree argument.Comment

As for Wilder, he's done nothing. He also looks incredibly flawed. He has awful technique, and he's looked poor even against B and C class guys.
Tony Tucker was a better fighter.
Larry Holmes was a better fighter. (Yes, even the faded version who Mike beat. Check him out even in his 40's, from the early 90's)
Michael Spinks was a better HW.
Frank Bruno has shown me more at this point.Comment

Are you saying that because he didn't knock him out?
Smith came just to survive.Comment

I'm not sure. It's a tricky one.
The Berbick win was a very good win. Although he wasn't special, Berbick was a solid guy. He had wins over the likes of: Bey, Page, Thomas and Tate etc. Mike blew him out with ease at only 20 years of age.
Stylistically, Tucker was one of his hardest fights. Tucker had a lot of ability. He was a top HW back in the late 80's, and he would definitely be a top 5-10 HW today.
He was devastating against Spinks. People like to dismiss the win, claiming that Spinks was just a LHW. But I think that's disrespectful. He proved to me that he was a world class HW in his close wins over Holmes, even though they were controversial. He also had a good win over Cooney. Like Tucker, he'd easily be a top 10 HW today. Mike took him out with absolute ease. It was very impressive.
His win against Holmes also gets a little overlooked for me. Whilst it's true that he was past his best and he took the fight for the money, it was still impressive how Mike beat him. You have to note that it was in 1988, yet he gave Evander a great fight in 1992, and he went on to beat Ray Mercer who was a good HW, who many people think beat Lennox. In 75 fights, Mike was the only guy who ever knocked him out. Not only that, he did with absolute ease in just 4 rounds.
His win over Bruno was also a good win, but that's when the wheels started to come off. Although Bruno wasn't great, like Tucker, Spinks and Holmes, he'd also be a top 10 HW today.
All of those wins were very impressive for me. It's hard to just single one of them out.Last edited by robertzimmerman; 05-08-2017, 06:58 PM.Comment
