It's actually very smart timing on their part to make this offer. If Canelo's team think an intermediate fight at 160 is in their best interest, that one would not be a bad one.

But I think they will fight GGG. Especially if Canelo stops Chavez, as the calls for a GGG fight will be thunderous.

I've been saying this for a while. Canelo will fight Chavez, Saunders, Lemieux and then GGG because he can make a ton of money while GGG gets a little older at that point they'll fight and Canelo will win. I could be wrong of course but this is the likely projection and makes the most business $en$e.

Even if he does become the best middleweight someday, his promoter did not believe he was the best middleweight when he was WBC champion and had him blatantly duck a unification with the WBA/IBF champion.

Wrong. Vitali was WBC champion and most experts had him ranked above Wladimir. That is why Wladimir's "lineal" title was so spurious. He never unified the WBC and the WBC was held by the better fighter.

Canelo vs Saunders in September lol.. Canelo better hope he get passed Chavez first. I think Canelo should win but he's never fought above 155 so he won't have the size advantage he normally has. Billy Saunders is not a legit threat in my book I don't think he even beats Lamieux.

The WBO can do what they heck they want with their business, and it is a business. GGG is currently demanding 50%, that ain't going to happen and this gives Canelo an out and the WBO cashes in. The WBO can stage a "world championship" middleweight fight which amounts to a two fight deal with Canelo essentially because he will carry that crown GGG or not. Canelo will fight for WBO titles for the rest of his career out of spite for the WBC, and both sides will make money, Canelo will always be ranked favorably, get exemptions, etc.
