I've been calling the Sulaimans and the WBC **** for years. They simply want to embezzle the fighters out of a sanctioning fee, period. Notice this observation next time you watch a multi-title fight taking place. Jose (when he was alive), Mauricio or a WBC rep ALWAYS crowns the winner with their belt first. Or they'll impose themselves by placing their shirt on the champ, sneaking in the fighter's victory photo.
Hell I've noticed fighters long defend an IBF, WBA or WBO belt for years then the WBC belt is included and here come to the Sulaimans, all over their new champ like a cheap Sunday church suit. Yes they have come a long way to improve the sport but they've also awarded their favorite undeserving fighters ahead of mandatories or rank them never having fought at a certain weight to fight for a vacant title, it's all relative.
WBC wanted to collect sanctioning fees for the belt, Canelo refused to pay. As the article states, the WBC bought a page in the fight program to show-off the belt and Canelo ordered the page be removed.
The belt was also supposed to be awarded to the winner after the fight, up in the ring. Canelo also said no. So now, the WBC has it set to present it to the winner in some place in Mexico in a special event. I guess only if Chavez wins will they move forward with this ceremony. They don't have a location for this yet.
It's a belt the WBC was going to start awarding every year to the winner of the Cinco de Mayo weekend fight and the September Mexican Independence weekend winner. Canelo is the one who currently has those dates in lock, I wonder if the WBC is going to still move forward with these intentions now that Canelo has refused to be part of their little scheme.
When a reporter asked Sulaiman why Canelo refused, he said some bull**** like, "he didn't know why Canelo refused but he understands that pressure of the fight makes fighters to be totally focused on the fight", tf?. He said the promoter of the fight, I'm guessing GoldenBoy, refused for the belt to be linked to any type of official promotion of the fight.

Do you have a link to this article? I would love to read it.
Glad Canelo told the WBC to **** off and stick that piece of shet belt up their ass!
What a ****ing joke! Piece of shet organization the WBC has become!
Damn Canelo is petty as hell lol. This isn't a real title so I don't give a crap that this fake belt was invented, but he is actively beefing with the WBC lollol
Why was the WBC involved in the first place? How do they have a say in this, seems like the WBC tried to reconcile with GBP as a gift? We all know the belt warrants no ranking, but more like a folkloric art gift.
Anyhow, I feel this gift was more towards in promoting the Chavez brand. Because ideally it would give a strap for Chavez Jr. to raise..
Interesting how Alvarez news works doe. For a year and a half Alvarez told everybody in interviews that he didn't like for a council to tell him what to do, that was even during the HBO Face Off he said it. This behavior is no different than Bowe's approach of calling them "We Be Crooks" or was that Toney?
This article seems to acknowledge the beef between the WBC and Alvarez. Not a good luck, but at least the WBC and Chavez are super tight when Jose Suleiman was around.
