Comments Thread For: Joshua: I Was Definitely Tired, But I Knew That I Could Recover

Anthony Joshua dug deep and put away Wladimir Klitschko in the 11th round to retain his IBF heavyweight crown in front of 90,000 at Wembley in London. It was Britain's largest attendance for a boxing event since 1939. The 41-year-old Klitschko was down on the canvas in round five before sending Joshua to the mat for the first time in his career in round six.

You can recover because your opponent is 41. Train for 12, and you'll be great! I suggest Joshua drops to a fight night weight closer to Klitscho's weight. If he wasn't so heavy, he would've finished Wlad earlier.

Joshua best get in better shape or it'll cost him next time around.

I think he came in so heavy because he wanted to be the stronger man on the night to stop wlads clinching

For meomeone who never went beyond 8 rounds josh did well. Wklad had that advantage but didn't make it count.
It might be more difficult next time for wlad as joish will be fitter

Agree. He's too bulky and looked out on his feet in Rd 5, after just a brief flurry.

Reminded me of Haye v Carl Thompson. Luckily, Joshua had enough foresight to reign it in before he completely gassed, and took a few rounds off to recover. Helps that Wlad still didn't want to pull the trigger either.

Hope he doesn't start getting c0c ky now. He did well, and I'm glad he won, but on a Brit TV show earlier, he was talking like the knockdown was nothing. Respect due, Klit landed a he!!acious punch, and Joshua did NOT jump right up afterwards. He was in deep water for a couple rounds. Admit you were gobsmacked and nearly finished. Great win, just don't start acting all invincible and shiii. We already have one of those in the HW division. He lives in Alabama currently. Don't be THAT guy.

You can tell he put so much into the 5th he had nothing left for the 6th. The fact he caught his second wind tells me he was in tremendous shape.

I can't recall an active fighter (let alone a HW) that doesn't act this way. I get what you're saying, just seems to be counterintuitive considering a fighter's mindset.
