Comments Thread For: Former Opponent Reflects on How Joshua Ended His Career

ANTHONY JOSHUA'S last opponent at Wembley has revealed how the current IBF heavyweight king left his face numb for three months. Matt Legg was blasted away in 83 seconds by Joshua when they opened the Carl Froch against George Groves card at the national stadium in 2014. But he was forced to retire from the sport after his big night.

Matt Legg was 7-2, and had already been stopped twice before he fought Joshua. One of the guys who stopped him was 6-28. Joshua broke his eye socket, but that's what happens when you put a top-caliber fighter against a complete tomato can. Potentially, Klitschko could also have seriously injured a fighter like Matt Legg. In fact, a fighter like Chris Arreola could have ended his career. This article is pure sensationalism.

Spot on. Legg wasn't even journeyman level, he was literally a "bum" even though i don't like to use that word or disrespect fighters.

Any fighter of a decent level would have smashed him to pieces.

I know matt personally and he is a great guy respectful towards everyone.he can fight and has no fear he has shared the ring with james toney and joshua despite knowing they were levels above him he started boxing late in life and had a terrible knee injury when starting out

Its typical of todays boxing fans who have never stepped foot in a ring to say nothing but negative comments

Yeah, let's compare a guy to Mike Tyson multiple times who is nothing like Mike Tyson.

You may see it as sensationalism, but fact is, the article, the interview... they focused on Joshua's power. That can't be disputed. Now, if Klit grabs, leans, holds, stinks up the joint... yeah he could get the W. But if he actually gets aggressive and fights Joshua, he'll get caught with a few of AJ's bombs. Sure, the reverse could happen, but generally in a fire fight, the younger faster more powerful fighter wins.
