Comments Thread For: Hearn: Fight This Tough Should've Come Much Later for Joshua

Anthony Joshua's promoter admits this is quite an ambitious step for him to take. The unbeaten IBF heavyweight champion has knocked out every opponent he has faced as a professional. He won a world title in just his 16th fight and already sells out arenas regularly.

Screw that noise, don't fight and win a title if you don't want to fight the best. That's all there is to it

Wlad is not long for boxing so no this sort of fight really could not have come much later. If it was possible to really put off they would have. Plus Wlad looks like a fairly easy mark long layoff and coming off a terrible performance. So either they were going to take this shot or somebody else was going to take that risk and possibly get those spoils of beating the last great heavy.

If they wanted to take their time with Joshua they easily could have though, but not many guys really have that long term work ethic or desire or whatever you want to call it to really play the long game in boxing so that is a pretty big risk. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush~

At least he's taking that risk. I'm glad it's not like the Golovkin-Canelo situation.

I'm glad they're both fighting now instead of down the line later.

Wilder's opposition is a joke, any fan will tell you that. Who actually takes him serious as a champ? He isn't fighting anybody

I think the timing is right, 3 years or so after turning pro is fine, but he should have stepped up to a top 10 opponent sooner and been better prepared.

                Still. Its an intriguing fight.

                Absolutely buzzing.

I think its a good time because a win will position Joshua nicely to become the face of the sport if he follows it with a win over Wilder before the year ends.

How many "tune ups" does a world champ need before he fights a guy in his 40's who is coming off a loss???
The way Joshua has been coddled is weak as hell. He finally gets a challenge, one that he's supposed to win, and it's "too soon".
