Comments Thread For: Joshua: I Took Klitschko Fight Because Our Division Needed It

Anthony Joshua could've taken safer fights and still made millions. The unbeaten British knockout artist has quickly become a superstar in England, where capacity crowds of roughly 20,000 have turned out even for mismatches he won just as easily as expected. But the IBF heavyweight champion wanted to challenge himself and felt it was necessary to take fights that could propel the heavyweight division and his blossoming career sooner rather than later.

No AJ, you took the fight because Eddie told you to.

No doubt...just hope he feels the same way when it's time to fight Wilder.

We need that fight. (Although I think AJ will fight Parker next)

Eddie himself has said he's not sure about the fight and it could be too early but I'm sure you know better.

The division needed it thanks to Tyson fury pulling out of the wk fight multiple times

Nah mate.....your tiny brain doesn't understand that behind Eddie there are managers, coaches, family etc who make the decision together then they say yes. Eddie brings the opportunity, he doesn't just decide this should be pretty obvious.

He's still a boxing legend, fit and is currently number 1 in the division. Are you saying Wlad couldn't beat Wilder, Parker, Ortiz etc? The fight is a big risk for an 18-0 fighter.

Another Matchroom casual coming out of the woodwork, wow.

Eddie Hearn decides who he fights, not his mum. Are you for real?

I'm torn like crazy on this one. I like both guys.....actually I really like Wilder's personality a lot so that makes 3 guys I like but what happens happens and at least one of the guys I like will win. Part of me wants to see Joshua assume the throne and do honors with it and the other part wants to see the old man have one last triumph. It is much easier when there is a villain or one I dont like. If you think about it, all three guys are really cool. My only negative is Wilder should have been doing at 18-20 fights what Joshua is doing. I realize Wilder had a short AM career so at least he should have stepped up to this level by his 25th fight. And a lot of that falls on his management team.
