  • Comments Thread For: Leo Santa Cruz Embraces The Tough Task of Being a Promoter

By Thomas Gerbasi - Fight week is approaching for Leo Santa Cruz, and all the familiar feelings are starting for the WBA featherweight champion. "I think I'm gonna feel nervous like I'm gonna fight and it's gonna be stressful," he laughs. "The only thing is I won't be training hard and cutting weight." This is a fairly new world for Santa Cruz, boxing promoter. Getting ready for the first nationally televised...

Respect to LSC for getting his own promotional entity in the mix. I think anyone with even half a name should have their own promotional arm, but for sure anyone at the level of LSC or better should be trying to control more of their own destiny + try to create an income source that they are somewhat versed in or can adapt to easier than most other careers post-fighting.

That said wtf at the name. These cats with some name value should keep it simple. Last Round means nothing to anyone. Call it Santa Cruz Promotions. Call it El Terremoto Promotions. If you got a name, like LSC does, you got a brand already. Use it. Mayweather created his own brand, TMT, but he still calls his promotional company Mayweather Promotions cuz that's the more known brand.

Amir Khan has his promotional company but I think it only does him and his brother.

Manny has his MPromotions but I think that's only in the Phillipines

I'm not sure if Kovalev has his own promotional company

K2 mainly promotes Wladamir and GGG

If your criteria is 'fighter promoting other fighters' Floyd takes it. Even when he was active he was filling his PPV cards with his own fighters and staging fight cards outside of his own fights. By the time Floyd retired he had 3(?) fighters who were current or past belt holders

Promoting should come naturally for him. The way he was able to duck and dodge rigo shows he has an internal promotors ability to play matchmaker while avoiding the biggest threat.

broner has robert easter jr who just sold 10 thousand tickets in ohio... That was promoted by about billions promotions.... Raushee warren another broner fighter who was a champion also fought on that card.... Then a few weeks later broner promoted his own show.... So broner is doing good too....

All these fighters start promotional companies and none if them succeed. A lot of these guys can't read or write and most of them have no education but they think they can run a profitable company.

These guys are delusional. Santa Cruz should call his company, Mexican Dyke promotions, than maybe someone will pay attention to it.

Golden Boy did alright. Floyd seems to be building something positive thats going places.

It is a highly volatile business doe so its not unexpected most will fail, current fighter or nah. I mean there is a reason we talk about the same lil group of promoters year after year & seldom do new players enter the game at any respectable level.

Think about how much fighters get paid in the meaningful level of the sport. You need 8 digits to legit compete seriously in the boxing promotion business so its no surprise two of the most well paid boxers are probably the top 2 boxers doing it right now.

                    Floyds company hasn't accomplished anything.

And Oscar was a mainstream superstar, and in the end Oscar was too ****** to see his company was being high jacked right out from under his feet by Haymon and Rich. Rich was doing most of the work at golden boy anyway, Oscar was just a face and a name.
