Comments Thread For: Nick Durandt, Veteran Trainer, Dies in Motorbike Accident

RENOWNED South African boxing trainer Nick Durandt died in a motorbike accident near Clarens in the Free State on Friday. He was 53. A larger-than-life character, known as much for his chains and rings as for his ability to produce champion boxers, Durandt produced a number of winners on the South African and international scene.

Damn, sorry to read about this news. I remember seeing Durandt in 2003 right before Lennox Lewis fought Vitali Klitschko. I met Lennox Lewis, Shane Mosley, Philip Ndou and Lucia Rijker.

I remember Durandt working the mitts with Philip Ndou in the ring. I also remember as well that he was a part of Hasim Rahman's camp for the first fight against Lennox Lewis.

Sorry to hear this. May his soul be at peace.

He looked like a bike guy. There are definitely worse ways to go then doing something you enjoy. RIP.

            Stay away from motorcycles, kids.

Everyone I've met who rides motorcycles has had close calls and a few have died.

This also takes me back to when Diego Corrales died and the shock of that news.

Yep. I'm lucky to be alive today after some of the wacko stunts I used to pull while riding. I cringe any time I think of some of that shiiii.

People should just stop riding motorcycles - simply too dangerous.
