Lol That's not the way I remember it. I recall Ramos quaking in his boots, not running around. Rigo did his usual and just stared at him. When Guille finally went in for the kill, it was over in the blink of an eye.

The fact is, Rigo just doesn't engage unless his opponent starts the action. Two notable exceptions were the Willie Casey and Donaire fights. Guille showed what he's capable of by tearing through poor Willie like a buzz saw. Against Donaire the first four rounds or so featured exchanges before Rigo went into "boxing mode."

I hope "El Chacal" puts on a show for his last few fights, because there's not much left of his career. And hopefully he's saved some money.

Rigo's career took a **** because Bob Arum wanted to tank him after he destroyed Donaire.

When in history have you ever heard a fighters promoter call him boring and saying that he didn't think he won after the biggest win of his career against a top 5 p4p fighter, in a fight he dominated?

I mean just look at the fights Donaire and Rigo got afterwards.

Donaire got Darchinyan who is aggressive, reckless, and always in exciting fights.

Rigo got Agbeko who had basically been out of the ring for 2 years coming off back to back losses and never fought at 122 before, and was showing up for a paycheck.

Does anyone doubt that Darchinyan would have been a great showcase fight for Rigo resulting in a highlight reel KO to emphasising his victory over Donaire?

Rigo has gotten the short end of the stick his whole career.

      Arum screwed all the Cubans.

Gamboa was becoming a legit star, then Arum wanted him to move up 2 weight classes to fight Brandon Rios who couldn't even make 135 anymore.

And before that, he strung along the prospect of Gamboa vs Juanma, but there was no way he was going to put his rising star from Puerto Rico in with a lowly Cuban.

Look what happened with Gamboa's career after all that.

Arum has some sort of grudge against the cubans.

I think Rigo is the most technically advanced fighter in the game right now but without any entertainment value, or the willingness to take any risks, he just going to continue to drift into obscurity. The guy has very little time left in the game. I want to say "it's now or never" but it might be more like "yesterday or never " at this point.
Fair enough, and I'd agree its probably "yesterday or never".

He is a 37 year old 122lber, who has fought 2 rounds in the last 2 years.

History has shown that fighters at the lower weight classes succumb to father time much sooner than the fighters at higher weight classes.

But you have to acknowledge the poor matchmaking has played a big part in lack of popularity. Floyd Mayweather fought a similarly passive style, possibly even more passive.

But Floyd was always matched with guys that would keep throwing at him and keep coming, instead of guys that would become tentative and refuse to engage with him.

If Rigo had the advantages of that kind of matchmaking, He would be much more respected and liked as a fighter.

Instead he gets put in fights on 2 weeks notice coming off a year layoff like he was against Drian Francisco, fighters moving down a division with 8" height advantages.

And unlike Floyd, Rigo somehow gets classified as boring despite winning 3 of his 4 fights since the agbeko fight by stoppage.

A fight that some how one of the judges managed to see 117-111 for Canelo? Yeah, its a joke.

Its pretty much like the Cubans are brought in and built up to be the slick hard hitting bogeyman, to give protected fighters some sort of credibility after they are robbed of victory.

I mean they even tried to steal the Donaire fight from Rigondeaux.

                  I mean cmon... 115-112? 114-113?

In a fight that was an absolute masterclass where you can make a serious case that Rigondeaux won every round, except for the one he was knocked down in...

Rigondeaux absolutely dismantled and busted up Donaire. There is no way you can score that fight even remotely close

if rigo had the advantage of being american yes he would prob be a lot more popular because american fans like people simply for being american just like in any other country. he got unlucky and was born in cuba. if you want to be popular and foreign you have to be exciting like ggg and kovalev. even a dominant champ like wlad is not popular because hes so boring. and also just because you win by stoppage doesnt mean you are exciting. wlad won most his fights by ko but they were excrutiating to watch clinch fests.
