because all of them (myself included) have other businesses besides boxing that we can use to subsidize the shows. Leon Margules (Warriors) is an attorney, Dibella has some minor league ball clubs and also has numerous other side interests, Joe Deguardia (Star Boxing) has a law practice, I was in real estate and mortgages when I was doing shows, etc etc., pretty much anyone who has run small shows for any length of time has other businesses on the side that their main income comes from.

The people who get into this business thinking they are going to make money on small shows usually are gone within 1 or 2 shows, and leave a bunch of unpaid bills in their wake.......

Okay I'll buy that. I didn't know them promoters had other business ventures. So everything you said makes sense.
But I'm gonna look for that article on Richard schaffer. I want you to read it. But no promises I'll find it. Like I said, I read it about a year ago

Show me that article please. I find that hard to believe. Lou DiBella had a very successful broadway boxing series in New York (before the new insurance laws) and he said he was losing money on the shows.

I found this article. It's similiar but not the one I read where it was Richard Schaffer explaining how he put on shows and made money.

I read it. That piece was from 2004 when Oscar was still an active fighter. They were making alot of endorsement money that isnt available to 99% of the other promoters, paid from people who really just wanted access / association with Oscar. Because there is NO WAY the math checks out on its own. The article cites the Marriott shows with 1400 tickets at $30 a pop. Thats $42k for the live gate, assuming not a single comp. So to make 10 grand, the show budget would have to be only $32k. And based on what they were paying opponents back in 2004 (I know because I lost out on quite a few potential opponents to their shows because I couldnt match or beat their offers) there is NO WAY they were doing those shows on a $32k budget. NO WAY. And the show budget doesnt even take into account all the administrative salaries for Schaeffer, Gomez, and everyone else he had on payroll at the time.....
