Comments Thread For: Matthysse Wasn't Considering Retirement; Eye Not a Problem

Speculation persisted during Lucas Matthysse's lengthy layoff that the knockout artist would retire. The longer he stayed away from boxing, the more people began believing that his knockout defeat to Viktor Postol would be the final time we'd see Matthysse in the ring. All along, Matthysse knew better. The former interim WBC super lightweight champion took an extended break, yet realized all along he would fight again.

Pretty sure he talked about retiring on several occasions.

They layoff is bound to have hurt him. He's a decent boxer but he doesn't have fast hands and he needs to be razor sharp to pull off his style. I can't see him being sharp after 18 months out of the ring.

After the Garcia loss he was thinking of retirement which he had verbalized.
