Comments Thread For: Rossy: Luis Ortiz Should Do Right Thing, Reschedule Our Fight

Derric Rossy went to the gym to train Monday morning, as if he hadn't learned Friday that his fight against former heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz was canceled. The veteran heavyweight hopes Ortiz "owns up to his commitment" and wants to make sure he remains ready if their 10-round fight is rescheduled. Rossy accepted a difficult fight against Ortiz on less than a month's notice, but the Cuban-born Ortiz suffered a thumb injury in sparring Wednesday and his handlers decided it wasn't wise to face a capable opponent like Rossy if Ortiz is injured.

Ortiz hasn't looked very good in his last few fights. The old man might be slowing down more than realized. His handlers likely made a smart decision here. Just wait for the title ****/pay day fight.

Yeah, unfortunately by the time he gets a big fight he'll be a shadow of himself, and easy pickings for a Joshua.

I think he should reschedule the fight and just fight Rossy cause if Wilder is gonna be at Klitschko-Joshua, then I think Wilder will get the fight before Ortiz does.

Please no. I'm not really a Ortiz fan. I think he's one of the most overhyped HW's in the division right now, but clearly the guy deserves better opponents than Rossy.

Throw him in with Mansour, Washington or Breazeale. I'd much rather see those fights than Rossy. I could probably name another 20 fights that'd be more interesting than Ortiz vs Rossy for that matter.

I think Rossy could possibly beat Mansour & give Washington or Breazeale a good fight. Rossy is no pushover & he comes to fight. He never gets a full training camp because most of his fights are on short notice. I have a lot of his fights & I have a lot of respect for him. He has fought a lot of name HWs over the years.

Ortiz is "ducking" Rossy for pretty much the same reason Ortiz is being "ducked" by other fighters: Not much reward for unnecessary risk.
Especially so when Ortiz is on the cusp of a title shot.
                Nothing but a business decision.
I do not blame him and his brain trust.
If he is going to lose ,might as well do so in a title fight and get PAID in the process like a Charles Martin.
