Do you ever get the feeling people don't actually score fights?

And that they actually go by what they feel or sense the way the fight went?

Kovalev-Ward went like a fight that seemed to have Kov the winner. He got the KD, he did the more cleaner work, he won his round clearer - whereas Ward's work was messy and ugly, and he had to grind his way in his won rounds. But look at that fight again. Ward was already fighting his way back by round 3. It wasn't pretty at all but Kov did very little work in a lot of rounds.

Now, GGG-Jacobs. Jacobs feels like the moral victor, he killed the KO streak and muted Golovkin's attack. But do people REALLY think Golovkin didn't win 6 rounds in that fight? That's all he needed with the KD. 6. Not 7. And only 5 others aside from the KD round. He didn't need to hurt Jacobs every round. He just needed to win 6 rounds, that's it. He CLEARLY won 6 rounds in that fight (7 in my eyes). Or do people really think Jacobs won 7 rounds in that fight?

Yea, I mean, it's a forum and some of these very vocal individuals (in fact, I think the most vocal ones) don't necessarily score or even know how to score. Look at how few people here have any clue when it comes to the actual techniques involved. I've had "experts" here try to tell me that they count blocked punches if they graze the opponent after being deflected by the glove. With nonsense like that, how can we expect to have the same scores?
I'm not saying that one needs to have trained to have an opinion. But, there are definitely a lot of people who run on feelings, not on any conviction to score a fair fight.

Also, look at the live threads where people are "scoring". You have certain members shamelessly giving every round to their countryman or fave fighter, then they try to actually discuss and debate these fights later, as if they are giving a valid perspective.

Most people don't score the fights, this was most evident during the DeGale vs Jack fight.... people just ran with the lopsided punch stats but if you broke it down on a round by round basis the draw verdict was on the money. Jack won "the fight" because his rounds were more dominant but as a round by round boxing match it was a draw in my opinion. Of course the robbery cries came flooding in.... some guys just cry robbery if the guy they thought won doesn't get the nod, same thing with the Chisora-Whyte fight...... I could not believe people were saying Chisora got robbed!! That fight was as close as anything I've ever seen.

What I do is follow Leadermans score and if I disagree with a round I just keep it in my mind once the fight is over and make the adjustment to his score. I want to enjoy the fight. Not sit there with a pen and pad. I can see fights like ward/kov and ggg/jacobs go either way. That's why I've never commented on the scoring.

True. Sometimes, I just say fk it and enjoy the fight. Other times, I score it so I can waste time arguing about the results on here.

I get the same feeling too but also I think some people go into the fight with their bias goggles on and refuse to see anything else besides what their fighter does. Once your mind is made up, it is very hard to be objective.

Good post. It's even worse because sometimes the bias comes form disliking other posters just as much as being a fan of a fighter. You can clearly see the patterns on nsb...even from some of the "non biased" people.

I always find it strange the way some commentators put to much emphasis on the championship rounds! technically there is no difference between the first two rounds, and the last two! Sometimes i think at-least one of the judges just makes his decision at the end of the fight (Still human judging is part of boxing culture/history, and in some strange way? i think people will miss such a function, if it is ever removed!)...
