Trainers who also act as promoters seem to always draw some negative attention towards their fighter. Angel, Abel, Roach, Mayweather Sr. come to mind in recent years. Only one who got away with it was Ruben/Robert, because RG wasn't as successful. The negative attention from trainers usually only happen to successful fighters.

Absolutely. Abe is basically a troll food vendor. Everything he says just sets up Golovkin for criticism. K2 is very business-like in their handling of Golovkin. Much like Oscar with Canelo. And, neither respects the fact that the true fans aren't idiots. They want compelling fights.

Golovkin himself seems like an alright guy to me.

Were it not for Abel/Loeffler, Golovkin would've likely ended up as a less-slick Dmitry Pirog; Soviet style boxer-puncher with pop.

The issue comes down to with who he'd end up with; Abel Sanchez deliberately tore up the style that Golovkin had developed, to pantomime him in a style that Sanchez believed, and proved out to be, was more TV friendly.

Put him with Top Rank or Lou DiBella, or pair him with a trainer like Buddy McGuirt or Freddie Roach, and you would've seen the trainers focus in on maxing out Golovkin's root Euro style, with the smile/shenanigans endearing him to the HBO audience.

Top Rank did good things with Loma... I can't see it hurting. Honestly you'll never know, he could've had a different style with more meaningful fights...his styles worked though to get the KO reel.

Casual fans however though do love to watch him fight but from the ones I talk to admit that his level of opponents aren't great. Casuals find him fun but not "great".
