Horn-Pacquiao looking to join elite list

The upcoming bout between Jeff Horn and Manny Pacquiao is looming as one of Australia's biggest boxing contests, but there've been plenty of other major fights.
Jeff Horn's upcoming fight with Manny Pacquiao may potentially be the most lucrative and watched Australian boxing bout of all time, but it's highly unlikely to be regarded as the most significant contest the country has seen.
Scheduled for Sunday July 2, the fight could set an official all-time Australian boxing attendance record, with suggestions it might attract a crowd of about 55,000 to Suncorp Stadium and record pay-per-view figures for a fight in this country.
Official figures for big boxing matches in Australia are somewhat sketchy, although a number of bouts have reportedly drawn more than 30,000 spectators.
Big drawing bouts included Jimmy Carruthers successfully defending his bantamweight world title against American Pappy Gault in 1953 and Rocky Gattellari's unsuccessful challenge to Italy's flyweight world champion Salvatore Burruni in 1965.
An upset win for Horn would make it a massive day for the sport in Australia.
However, for historical, sporting and social significance it would be almost impossible to surpass the celebrated 1908 Boxing Day heavyweight title bout in Sydney between two foreign fighters.
Jack Johnson became the first African-American to win the title when he dethroned Canadian Tommy Burns at Sydney Stadium in a landmark sporting event for black athletes.
The leading candidate for the biggest local fight involving an Australian is Jeff Fenech's super featherweight world title rematch with Ghana's Azumah Nelson at Melbourne's Princes Park in 1992 in front of another 30,000-plus crowd.
The two men slugged out a contentious draw in Las Vegas less than a year earlier, but Nelson won their second fight by stoppage, with both men ultimately ending up in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Filipino Pacquiao, a six-division world champion, will be the most decorated boxer to fight in Australia.
Another multi-division world title holder Roy Jones Jr and fellow American and heavyweight legend Joe Frazier are among the very best imports to have fought in Australia.
There have been plenty of memorable all-Australian bouts.
One of the biggest domestic dust ups was in Melbourne in 1985, when Barry Michael took the IBF junior lightweight title off compatriot Lester Ellis.
Vic Patrick and Tommy Burns squared off in Sydney in 1946 and the harbour city also hosted the first Anthony Mundine - Danny Green fight 60 years later.

That is all true and interesting but it still is a poor fight for Pacquiao to take. Horn isn't in his class. Almost nobody outside of Australia had even heard of Horn. He isn't even a top 10 welterweight. What are the betting odds on this fight?

Manny in he ring fighting a live punching bag would make more sense than fighting horn.
