  • Will Ward-Kovalev 2 do better than 200k?

I like how they are promoting this fight - much better than the last one.

However, I think a lot of people who bought the first fight, won't be buying this one as they feel somehow disappointed. It's unlikely this one will be a much better fight in terms of action. I also think they are downsizing the arena as well.

Do you think this fight does better than the last one? (165k was the last one if I remember correctly).

My prediction is just bellow 200k buys.

The first fight was pretty exciting for me, even if the fight didnt have a consistent flow of action. But the knockdown and the danger of a knockout, followed by Wards adjustment and good moments from both sides made the fight interesting to watch.

And Im really curious what they will do differently this time.
But from a casual viewpoint, there probably was too much wrestling involved, so I dont really know how the fight will perform.

I liked the first fight too. It was highly competitive and those fights are always interesting to hardcore. However, as you mentioned, casual fans are somehow put off by a lack of "action".

Now we have a very different set-up compared to the first fight:

        - Controversy
        - USA vs Russia (being forced by Ward's team)
        - Very agitated Kovalev
        - Both fighters want to prove something

It has the making of a big fight, but somehow I feel it won't translate into buys.

events are about what they're competing with

Las Vegas in the summer is going to be hot, but what else is there to compete against Ward-Kovalev II in June?

Alvarez's event is more than a month before Ward-Kovalev II, the NBA Finals are over by the date, only baseball is really going on (ESPN will be looking for extra stuff to cover), and there doesn't seem to be any major boxing or MMA events to compete for eyeballs with.

You add that Roc Nation is now the lead promoter of the event (with the seeming willingness to put the extra money into marketing the event), and there's no reason why Ward-Kovalev II shouldn't do big business.

If the first fight wasnt on ppv, the 2nd probably would do much better numbers. The first fight was good but no one got to watch it as it only did 160k. This one will probably do similar numbers.

might do worse than the first one. despite people on here saying it was 'compelling' lets face it the fight ******. almost no memorable exchanges in the second half of the fight, lots of grappling, really untidy at times.
