Honestly I think it's because he's Mexican. We have this idea of the Mexican fighter stereotype a guy who just comes forward and brawls, slow, and will eat punches on the way in to take you out. Canelo doesn't fight like any Mexican I ever seen. If he were black we would all label him "slick". His defense, head movement, hand speed, counterpunching, ect literally get's better every time out. And he's ONLY 26 he hasn't even peaked yet.

His skills are underrated he is playing chess in the ring, setting traps, adapting fight to fight based on what the opponent tries to do. He fights like an old vet who's seen it all very calm and you keep forgetting he is ONLY 26.

Many people got totally owned in this thread by believing in Chavez purely because of size.
How is he improving since the Floyd loss? His opponents are trash. So how can you actually say he is improving?

Where was the improvement vs Lara? The kid couldn't even cut the ring off.

Calling them trash is really not a term I can agree to. There are good names, Angulo and Chaves being the worst, Cotto and Khan being the best wins. Liam Smith was undefeated, Lara fight was a very controversial one.

Maybe the improvements are not so visible, due to the fact that Floyd Floyd'd him, but he's proven time and time again that he is a sound boxer, unless the menace he is facing is on that highest level of pure boxing. I thought he proved a lot in the fight against Cotto.

He was only 22 when he faced FM.

Me too, and the closer the fight will get and the more we will see their attitudes, everything might change. I just don't see the KO coming right now, as you mention the jab-fight will be essential in this fight, if no KO is to come. People are not really talking about the size difference, so I guess there's not really anything significant there. It goes the distance in a close fight, and they will give it to the marketable fighter. We know who that is. Longevity is vital here.

Who wins the battle of the jab then? My pick is Canelo, somehow relatable to his jab-pull counter, but both men got mouthwatering jabs and we know that GGG will bring sundaypunches in bunches, so if it somehow becomes a battle of ego, it's hard to see GGG lose to anyone. Canelo is a very proud man, so I can see him get ****** into a slug'em fight once in a while - Which I would probably not recommend if the fight was close.

I like how you conveniently leave Kirkland out and your best argument for Liam Smith is "undefeated."

Yea, Canelo is visually improving since Floyd.

Canelo has Top 10 active boxing resumes. To say otherwise means you don't know wtf you're going on about...

Cotto, Lara, Trout (undefeated version), Angulo (people on this forum voted 50/50 beforehand), JCC, Kirkland, Khan, undefeated Smith, Mosley, etc.

His lone loss was a boxing lesson and he looks sharper and more durable every time out in the ring.
