....I would like some advice from the boxers and non boxers on here. Do you think this is a worthwhile program or is it cheesy? It seems like it would be a great workout and alot of fun. I have never boxed before and at 42 years old I'm not about to try and become an amateur now. I have always loved the sport and would like to get a little closer. This would be kind of a cool way to get a feel for what boxers go through in their routine, get some pointers on technique, and get in tip top shape at the same time. I have talked to the guy that runs the place and he seems like a really good guy. He has another pro there as well. My neighbor says he would be interested in going with me if I ever decide to do it.

....If you can make it on those nights then we should seriously think about doing it. My neighbor that you met is interested in doing it as well.Comment

i'd take a shot at it man. if nothing else it's getting you into reasonable shape and it's giving you some facets of the in-ring game as well as the out of ring stuff you already know.
i have trained a bit but have never fought amateur or otherwise either. i dont plan on it either but the training is always helpful.Comment

How much does this club cost to work in? Also where are you guys from?
If you guys want to travel to michigan sometime I could set up sessions for you with Bill Miller, the guy who brought James Toney up. He is a cool guy and you would love him to, while you learn the fundamentals of boxing. If something like this would interest you, I could set up week end vacation type things for you. You will be sore during this vacation but you will remember it for a life time.

Let me tell you, training to box is extremely hard if you do it correctly. You work your whole body, and get extremely strong by training to last in a little ring, with someone who is trying to beat the **** out of you, as you try and beat the **** out of them. I would say it is amongst the best, if not the best workout you can do... If you are dedicated, you will succeed. If you have low mental strength, boxing isnt for you...
Even if you dont compete, the training that you will be doing, especially if you include sparring, may be hard enough to put you off ever training again after the first session.
Having said all that, I recommend it to everyone. Even girls... who we all know are weak.

....Raesaad and I are down here in Florida and that academy is like 20 minutes from my house. I would love to come up there and take you up on that idea but it's realy not feasible. Do you know anything about the ex-pro who runs this place or his protege? I looked up his record on boxrec so I know he did box professionaly at one time. The classes seem pretty cheap and and private lessons are fairly reasonable as well.
Exig: I think your right on the mark with your post.Comment
