Have fighters lost respect for the history of the game ?

Has boxing lost respect for it's own history ? We always hear how this and that boxer is a student of the game, but why don't they fight like it ? Some fighters today seem to still have a passion to prove them selves supreme in what is considered to be a lackluster era for boxing . These fighters know what it takes to be put apon the pedestal of the greats from the past. So why is it that there seems to be so fewer each day ? Why is it that some guy sitting on his couch with a beer belly knows how to have a hall of fame career but some fighters can't even make the right fight happen ? Fighters no longer seem willing to have great rivalries for the fear that they may lose earning potential in thee event of a loss. Just think of what a six fight Robinson Vs Lamotta type series would be today. Saddly with boxing's politics the way they are today it is more far fetched to happen then Don King having a good hair day . People are more in favor of great money then then being known as a warrior to stand side by side with the greats of history. It is not only disrespectful to the fans to not give your all but also the fighters that were never given the chance at a historical fight.[/INDENT]What would fighters from the past that fought only for enough money to put food on the table think today? Boxing was supposed to be the last era af gladiators but resembles more the primadonna boy band era . Today boxing has lost it's true self for every Gatti we have ten Nas Hamed's ,what will it take to change this path ?

Why dont they fight like the older fighters? Literally, which I know you didnt mean, but they would get destroyed if they took up the same styles as the older fighters...

Why dont they fight anyone? Money is the simple answer. Listen to any Floyd Mayweather interview right now, and you are more than likely going to hear "Im a businessman, and this is business" - which basically sums up the situation that we have in boxing... Fighters want money as much as the next person, and if they can do it the easy way and earn more, thats what they are going to do.

Btw Naz Hamed bought boxing to a new era. Without him boxing fans in general would be much less I believe, as he put a certain degree of sparkle and excitement into the game. There are fighters out there now, Champs in fact, who frequently state in interviews that it was the flare of Naz that bought them into the game. Off the top of my head Pauli Malignaggi was attracted to boxing because of Naz, but I know he's not a champ yet, however he has the skills to make it sometime.

There is more money in boxing now and it has basically corrupted the way in which fights are made. Some say its turned out for the worse, but at the end of the day, if fighters use the politics of the game in the right way, like what Hatton is doing right now, then they will get the fights they are looking for. So with this inept system, you can use it against itself, to get the results you are looking for. Hatton is building up a portfolio and in the end the fight game is going to call for him to fight the likes of Mayweather, so its not necessarily a negative way of doing business that we have now.

It's not the fighters that made the game this way,it's all the damn promoters, belts, weight classes and fees the boxers are just following suit, get rid of some of all of the above, along with making championships fights 15 rounds again ,and why not have weigh-ins the day of the fight as well that would really separate the men from the boys

I'm not saying Gatti is great but that he fights like greats of the past not in styl but he fights people like PBF and DLH with little chance to win. He holds little regard for fear of lost earning potential or hurting his legacy because having the heart to take these fights is his legacy....in this way Gatti has been great
