Russell will make a mandatory defense of his WBC world featherweight title that night against interim champion Oscar Escandon. Showtime will televise the Russell-Escandon encounter as the main event of a "Showtime Championship Boxing" doubleheader from MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Actually, the real fanboys of this site downplayed Gary's skills because he supposedly only fought TBAs. Until Lomachenko beat him, that is, then suddenly he became an impressive scalp to have.
