Is there a desire to be the best nowadays?

Looking at the current crop of World level fighters, it seems that 99% of them are entitled as phuck and want recognition as great after a couple of good wins (or sometimes not even that).

They demand huge paychecks and dodge big fights.

Seems like the ideal career these days for most of these guys is:
-Fight some bums until you have fought 20 or so fights
-fight 1 or 2 top level guys
-fight an old past prime guy
-demand more money or recognition as great
    -fight b level guys
    -retire

Is here a desire to be the GREATEST anymore? Doesn't seem like it.

What makes me puke most about this current crop of fighters is the lack of desire to fight more often. Some fighters even won their fights months ago getting barely any scratches, and they're still in no rush to work on their next fight. Just imagine what these people do for long periods of time. Nothing. These are not the type of fighters this sport needs.

Agreed, there's gonna be comments of 'bu..but.. it's a business!!' and them people are missing the point that these fighters don't fight for legacy or to be the best anymore, it's about doing just enough to claim you're the greatest. It's a shame really.

That is a rematch that SHOULD happen, glad both parties wanted to prove themselves, also impressed with Spence (he seems hungry and willing to fight), time will tell though.

Lomachenko is probably the most obvious answer.

No, there is no desire to be great. Only fighters wanting to sign with Al Haymon to get paid to fight 90% bums and 10% quality fights.

Good post. BUT honestly, yesterday I had a free moment and I looked up boxing UNDISPUTED champions & let me tell you, for boxings LONG HISTORY the list is pathetically small. No matter what era we are in, the desire for $ eventually trumps legacy.
