Originally posted by Boxing Logic View PostHow funny that Stevenson is whining about PBC dying and not having a date for him, when it's precisely because of ducking fighters like Stevenson that PBC is dying in the first place. Too much damage was done to the PBC brand early by all the ducking by its top fighters, all the mismatches, all the hometown judges, etc. By the time decent matchups came around, most the fighters had become complacent and style, so they couldn't put in exciting performances even when the big matchups happened.
Plus, by that time, most fans had given up on those fighters and moved on, lost interest, etc. Those fighters had shine a few years ago, promise that they could maybe be the best in the sport. Fights like Stevenson vs Kovalev or Stevenson-Beterbiev had promise that Stevenson might prove he was the best in the sport. Same for Santa Cruz vs Rigondeaux, for either. Same for Thurman vs Porter before Porter vs Brook. Back then there was hype that Thurman could be the best in the world. Now he's still excellent and his resumé is better, but some of the shine is gone with his lack of knockouts and aggression lately.
Thurman vs Garcia also had shine back then. We were still waiting for Danny's inevitable first loss, and for Thurman's inevitable knockout. Instead Danny lost like three times before the fight ever happened, so that suspense was gone, and Thurman stopped knocking anyone out, so that excitement was gone.
It's been like that with all of PBCs major shows. We've gone from years of mismatches and the best fights being made, to most the best PBC fights being made, but those fighters no longer being the best in the sport, if they ever were, and those fights underwhelming, despite the hilarious commentary teams being paid to say every fight is fight of the year. Now all the shine is with GGG, Canelo, Kovalev, Ward, and Lomachenko. If Crawford ever gets a top opponent his size, it will be there too. And PBC doesn't have any of those fighters.
The only guys with that type of shine at PBC right now are maybe Spence, and Mikey Garcia, but Mikey Garcia isn't signed with PBC, and probably won't now given their financial failures. And Spence is just beating up smaller guys. He says he walks around at 180, but he fights at 147. I'll be excited when he's beating top middleweights, not little welterweights.
But it really is rich for Stevenson to be criticizing PBC's lack of dates. If Stevenson hadn't ducked Kovalev and everyone else right at the start of PBC, maybe PBC's brand would still be intact, and they'd be able to actually attract advertisers to pay for those dates he's been getting paid millions on to fight easy opponents for YEARS after one average win over Chad Dawson. The PBC has been paying Stevenson millions for sparring sessions, so maybe he shouldn't be criticizing.
Although you can't blame Stevenson either. If they were willing to pay him that much for easy fights, it would have been dumb to his family to take a hard fight right away and sacrifice years of earning easy money. Still, Stevenson should have still respected the sport enough to take the big fight after a few easy ones, before he was this old and the fight lost its shine.

I'm not defending him anymore, just praying for something to happen... There's so much alternative facts being thrown here that I lost faith in humanity... So why bother straightening up the facts over and over ?

they were 300k dollars off...so michel aand haymon both elected to pay 200k and leave hbo with 100k to pay to have him back and hbo refused
hbo would have locked him in for 3 fights if htey were selfish..hbo blew the best fight in boxing imo for 100k dollars..
that staff is now fired btw...they have replaced staff frequently.

Stevenson's career has been driven into obscurity. He should've taken that fight with Kovalev in 2014 then go with Haymon. Then again, he's made good money while taking little risk. That's boxing for ya these days.
Btw Defense Force = 2 people deep.
The dude legit has no fans.
