Comments Thread For: Usyk Sees Heavyweight Move in Future, Wants More Belts First

WBO World Champion Aleksandr Usyk has revealed his intentions to move up to heavyweight, but only after conquering at cruiserweight. Speaking at a pre-fight press conference to promote his upcoming defence against Michael Hunter, Usyk confirmed: "Yes of course I have plans [to go to heavyweight] but there's plenty of good champions at cruiserweight, I need the three other titles first!

Not sure why, but I think Usyk gets hurt at heavyweight. He just seems too small and not enough power.

Yea, he's sorta tall enough but he's not a heavy puncher for the most part. Perfect example of why I wish there was a normal HW div that capped at around 225, and a SHW division for those over 225lbs.

i know its slightly different, but he didnt seem hurt once agaisnt a big hitting huge guy in joyce or junior Fa?

i honestly think he is elusive enough to not take a haymaker from the elite giant HW's...they are just so goddamn robotic, flat footed and lacking in high level skills.

          ideally this is the scenario:

          Gassiev
Bellew (or fight for the vacant belt V Breidis)
Dorticos/ one of the CW contenders at the end of the year

          2018: move up to HW

Big man vs little man match-ups always seem to follow a similar pattern of the little man dazzling the big man with his speed and technique for a few rounds before being worn down or caught with something and hurt, so Usyk would need to show some exceptional stamina and concentration to be successful against the best 240+ guys

Far too small for elite heavyweights. Wlad, Ortiz, Joshua, Wilder, Fury..eat him alive. he can only beat somebody like Haye, but we know Haye is not elite hw. I also don`t think Usyk can beat Whyte, Chisora or Parker.

Talent wise he will have no issues at heavyweight. I honestly don't see anyone that can match his overall skillset at HW or CW, but like others have said. He is just too small for modern day heavyweights and he does'nt really have the great equalizer.

It will be fun to watch though as I really enjoy watching him fight.
