Comments Thread For: Francisco Vargas Might Not Return to Ring Until Sometime in 2018

NEW YORK Francisco Vargas' promoters want him to take a very extensive break following the brutal beating he suffered against Miguel Berchelt two months ago. In fact, if Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez gets to choose, Vargas won't fight again until sometime in 2018. The 32-year-old Vargas (23-1-2, 17 KOs) has endured three consecutive bloody battles, and the former WBC world super featherweight champion needs a lot of time off to recuperate and allow the sensitive scar tissue around his eyes to heal as best it can.

if he does come back this year, hopefully it's in December and against a guy with no punching power,he deserves a fight like that,an easy one after his past three tough ones he deserves an easy payday, rest for the next 7 months,it would be better to come back next year, but if he insists, hopefully its until December and an easy fight

Too bad. He was in some great fights and was a hell of a fighter, but it's fair to wonder if he'll ever be that guy again. He's really up there in age now for a 130 lb fighter and he took a bad beating against Berchelt after being in 2 wars before that fight. Would love to see him in a big fight again, but I'm guessing we've already seen the best of Vargas

Idk about a break if his promoter is talking like they are talking. He should chill & take some time going to school or learning something outside of boxing he can do post-boxing if his promoter is feeling this way & then cash out via the biggest fights possible in 2018 if thats his only option.

He needs to see the best plastic surgeon he can find to try and remove the scar tissue. Otherwise every fight it will risk to reopen and he has fight at a disadvantage. But he is exciting gets hit a lot and that's the only way he knows how to fight. Gatti had horrible facial features as well and everyone said his career was over in 1999 because severe cuts and facial swellings. He went on to not only fight until 2007 but gave boxing a epic trilogy. Vargas is a limited fighter but I will always pay to see him fight and root for him.
