Comments Thread For: Marco Huck vs. Mairis Briedis: Torch Songs

By Cliff Rold - The idea in sport of passing the torch to a new generation is well ingrained. Today's heroes are tomorrow's legends, replaced by younger models that can run as fast and sometimes faster, throw as hard and sometimes harder, then those who paved their way. In boxing, passing the torch is more visceral. Torches aren't passed so much as seized...

Expect Huck vs Usyk at the end of this year in a World title Unification fight in Germany. But Huck has to beat Briedis first.

I agree that there is a new era about to begin in the Heavyweight division. However Huck only is 32 or so and all the new comers are around that age too: Usyk 30, Glowaki 30, Briedis 32 ... So while there is a lot of new talent in the division, there is not the new young star/stars, who will dominate for a long time as they will all hit their peak relatively soon.

I have a feeling this could be the end for Huck. Briedis has big time power and while the same age is much fresher. Another fantastic fight that has been produced by the Cruiserweight division

Can't count out Huck especially when its in Germany but I feel the rather unproven Breidis will be too fresh & take this possibly by stoppage. Huck has a lot of mileage for a 32yr old & imo this will be one war too many.

Cracking fight sadly going under the radar i'll be surprised if this isn't a FOTY candidate.

Bit off topic but any news on Drozds injuries? Has he retired permanently? Excellent fighter and seemed to get better and better with age but unfortunately seems plagued with injuries & now must be fast approaching 40.

Briedis has to knock him out because fight in Germany so, its impossible to defeat by decision German fighters in Germany. You can see it by watching all the fights of Felix Sturm.

Germany had a fair share of robberies, but what are the latest?

Andrade got a decision against culcay.
Fuy got the decision against Klitschko.
Geale got the decision against Sturm.
