Comments Thread For: Robert Garcia Fears That Age Has Finally Caught Up With Golovkin

After his two most recent performances, there are some experts who believes IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) is finally slowing down. Back in September at the O2 Arena in London, he had some issues during his five round stoppage of Kell Brook, who moved up by two full weight divisions to fight him.

It really is a shame. Every fighter only has so many good years at their absolute peak. Not saying fighters can't be involved in good fights and have good performances outside those years, but it's not the same as when fighters meet their best opposition when they're peaking. For various reasons, fans missed out on that with ggg.

Yup. And they could have made GGG-Canelo right after GGG-Lemieux. Both GGG and Canelo's primes DID overlap. But they refused to. So now they ruined another great fight. They do this every time. Their GREED makes them want to marinate these fights until guys are 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37 years old.

The result is, they get more money for the one fight when it happens, but the quality of the fight disappoints everyone, so they don't come back. It allows them to get these peaks of revenue, but the result is it kills the sport overall, and lowers the viewership of the average fight. And then eventually, even the peaks are lower and lower every time. Just look at the PPV sales for every fight since May-Pac. Even the peaks are lower now. They are cannibalizing the sport overall out of greed for each specific mega fight. If they would just have the best fight the best before age 30, maybe 31, 32 at the latest, the fights would be much better and much more meaningful, and fans would return to the sport.

But 33? 33 is not anyone's athletic prime. Look at soccer. Look at basketball. Look at any other sport that requires movement. The speed and stamina is not the same past age 31, 32. So why would anyone pay 70 bucks not to watch the best, but watch some old, past prime fighter? Make the damn fights when the fighters are prime. Spence-Crawford is ready now. Mikey vs Loma is ready now. Mikey vs Thurman is ready now. Thurman vs Spence is ready now. And so on.

GGG vs Floyd has been ready for years. Years. But they're still marinating that ****. It's a joke. They are killing the sport. The only reason PPV fights should be made with someone above the age of 32 is if the fight was not available before then, or if it's heavyweights. Otherwise, there is no excuse. Even Kovalev-Ward, those guys were around fighting on HBO before they were 30. That fight should have happened at least a year before it did. And it goes on and on. They are killing boxing with this. If they want best vs best fights with ENERGY, with action, with sustained combination punching and stamina, the fighters can do that before they hit 32, not after. So stop overmarinating these fights!

Too bad K2 wasted GGGs entire career fighting bums and making excuses for why they wouldn't make any concessions on weight or money to land bigger and better fights fans asked for. Not Canelo's fault that he is already old and begging a man who has never fought at 160 for a payday. Mr 154 or 168 could of went up or down anytime over the last 5 years to get better fights. He chose to stay put and fight bums at 160 and now when he steps up a bit looks bad and the excuse is he's old? SMH

I don't think so, it was just the caliber of opposition, Brook is top 3 WW and Jacobs clearly is top 3 MW.

Wait till GGG blasts off Saunders and the destructor hype will return, if GGG fights Saunders I'm positive he KO's Billy in less than 6.

I don't think it's age. It was jacobs, he had every single advantage against golovkin. height, reach, weight, age everything except experience, jacobs even had 36 hours to rehydrate, that doesn't happen very often in big fights
