Now that Jorge Linares has beaten Anthony Crolla so easily in their rematch, promoter Frank Warren isn't all that interested in making a Crolla-Terry Flanagan fight. It makes much more sense to Warren, Flanagan's promoter, to try to lure Linares to return to the United Kingdom for a lightweight title unification fight against Flanagan. That would require Flanagan, the WBO world lightweight champion, to beat Russia's Petr Petrov in their April 8 bout at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

Linares must be rubbing his hands. He's really benefiting from the British boxing scene's popularity. That said Flanagan isn't all that popular. But he could take his belt and then take out Campbell in Hull then he's wasted all our lightweights. He could even knock over Scotty Cardle for a laugh.

Linares is the WBC 'champion in recess' (aka Diamond Belt). He got stripped for not being able to fight Zlaticanin (broken hand), but retained the right to immediately fight for the belt once we was ready to do so. Then Garcia went on to take the belt off Zlaticanin.

So Linares is actually Garcia's mandatory if Linares wants to exercise his right to fight for the belt.

edit. But from what I understand Crolla could have won the 'Diamond Belt' by beating Linares, so I presume the Diamond Belt carries a right to fight for the regular belt and can be passed on by beating the previous Diamond Belt holder. But who knows with all these ABC belts.......
