Mayweather-Mega Star
Manny Pacquiao - Super Star
Canelo Alvarez - Future Superstar
Miguel Cotto - Current Star
GGG, Andre Ward, Kovalev - Future Stars
Terrance Crawford, Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua - Leaping Stars ( These guys are not there now, but could leapfrog others with the right fights)
Amir Khan - Stepping Star.lolComment

Problem is hbo is practically out of boxing, they aren't paying for any good fights anymore. Showtime and PBC are the only places paying for good fights.
Golovkin got greedy thinking he would do well on ppv and make more against Canelo. Canelo already offered G a contract and if after that performance- in the ring and on ppv- Canelo still offers the same deal G should jump all over it.Comment

I hear what mikey is saying but I doubt this was a decision ggg made. I know in the case of the Jacobs fight it had to be ppv due to his excessive demands and he wouldn't agree to the official split so it was either ppv or no fight. You already know everyone would've blamed ggg if the fight didn't happen even it it was due to Jacobs demands.Comment

Stop charging people $70 for average fights and PPV numbers will increase.
Cut that price to $30 for the average fights ($50 for good fights) and more people will buy them. It's not so much the market is dead, its over-priced.Comment

If GGG said no he would've been accused of ducking. He made the right decision in agreeing to the terms of the fight but the fact remains ppv was the only way to pay the fighters.
As for the canelo situation maybe his demands are holding up the fight and like with Jacobs I hope they find a way to work it out.Last edited by Fabes88; 03-28-2017, 01:25 PM.Comment

HBO is distancing themselves from boxing and focusing on their television series and crappy agenda driven documentaries. PPV was the only way to go in order to ensure each fighter got a fair payday. One thing people forget, GGG doesn't have a big name to help move his numbers, he is on his own until Canelo grows a pair. Mayweather's first PPV was against Gatti who was the draw at that time. Then he fought Baldomir on PPV, each of those fights pulled in about 300K buys, but it was Gatti who put Mayweather on the path of PPV success and ultimately it was DLH who launched him into one million plus territory. GGG doesn't have that opponent who is willing to fight him.Comment

The thing is, I don't really think it was necessarily a "strategic" move, more so than one that was made out of necessity.
GGG is now making good $...and more importantly, in order to get decent fighters to fight him, they want really good money.
The days of HBO paying $4 million for license fees are gone...the move to PPV was made because they had no other choice if they wanted to match GGG with interesting opposition.Comment

that fight did leave a sour taste for all the fans but low ppv sales right now is not because of that fight only. times is changing, there's so many sites that will stream ppv fights. and boxing as a whole hasnt been too exciting as of late. its not just because of the floyd vs manny fight. all these other "big fights" aint living up to the hype.Comment

It will be back. for example" mikey vs crawford, lomachenko, broner, danny g, thurman, spence....etc there are some potentially big fights on the horizon. Stop blaming pac/floyd, no one wants to see a guy that barely speaks english while he crushes cans...fans are smarter than that. What names have GGG beat? Exactly.Comment
