He makes pretty much the same amount of money fighting on HBO. I doubt that he gets any more money from PPV when the buys aren't there. K2 needs to at least break even, especially when it looks like the fight only brought in around 10 mil in revenue after HBO and cables providers take there cut

Mikey doesn't fight on HBO so he won't have a problem if that's the case. I don't see any future opponents asking for 2+ mil to fight Mikey right now. Loma doesn't make a mil per fight and Crawford is making a lil over 1 mil. It would be Mikey's opponents best interest to fight him where it maximizes their earnings like Showtime or PBCComment

I enjoy and respect Mikey as a fighter but he wasted almost 3 years of his prime because he thinks he's smarter than he is. He should stay away from commenting on the business side of things for other fighters. If he had any common sense, he would understand that the only reason both of Golovkin's fights were on ppv was because HBO doesn't have the budget to afford the purses that his (respectable) opponents want in order to get in the ring with GGG.
These were not events specifically designed to be ppvs.
I think your missing the point...i don't blame team ggg for going that route....but it could hurt him in Canelo negotiations....solid opinion that he is entitled to, I think a damn near lifetimes investment to the sport entitles him to such.Comment

Lil g needs to skipped the unknown Saunders and
1. CANELO 160LB
2. WARD 168LBS
3. JACOBS rematch would double in viewership based on the closeness of first fight.
These are fights that could made that could make him a household name!Comment

Wasted 3 years of his life? He actually got 3 years of his life back....and it had more to do with principal than pride.

Of course Mikey is right. The Jacobs fight being on PPV and it not doing well has hurt GGG stock and bargaining power at the negotiation table with canelo. GGG camp should of taken less money to keep it on regular HBO or let the fight go to haymon. Haymon would of figured out how to come up with money or showtime would of paid for it keeping it off PPV. And if you insisted on it being on PPV only made sense to take the offer from canelo fight BEFORE the Jacobs numbers came out. LMAO
The truth is whatever you thought GGG worth was 2 weeks ago it's less today because this PPV. Oscar all but admitted that his old offer is off the table and that he will give GGG a new offer reflecting the market change. When canelo/chavez does huge numbers GGG offer probably drops more.Comment

I don't know if it's a mistake or not - when you start appearing on PPV, you develop a reputation and a certain glamour. On top of that, free TV/HBO fighters will never make as much as PPV fighters, even for low budget PPVs. Even Crawford's 70k PPV event generated him the highest purse to date.
However as a long term trend, Mikey may be right. PPV model is dying. Or at the very least, requiring to have HBO/Showtime in order to get the event is definitely a dying practice due to so many cord cutters. Networks need to make PPV events both cheaper and easier accessible online. If the price of the PPV was ~$20-40, all in HD, and you could easily stream it off HBOPPV.com or something, they would see the number of buys increase significantly.Comment
