Only thing in recent memory that I know to compare this to is When Money beat Vassily Jirov for the cruiserweight title. And he and Hopkins, the middleweight champ at the time, agreed to a fight. I think it may have gotten as far as contracts signed. And then Hopkins got cold feet at the 11th hour.

I remember that! Man the Toney-Jirov fight was a classic. And I love b hop but it did seem like he didn't want that fight. Too bad because I would have loved that match at that particular time.

Yes sir. Toney-Jirov is up there with Holyfield-Qawi I in best all-time cruiserweight fights.

As for Hopkins-Toney. I think Hopkins got scared off by the size difference. I personally feel X played himself on this one. Toney probably isn't even naturally bigger than X. He's just fat. As a middleweight, moving up and beating a talent like Toney for the cruiserweight title would have certainly raised X a few notches on the ATG list.

Agree completely. I think b hop would have pulled that fight off. Toney is one of the best natural fighters I've ever seen, but I think footwork would have made the difference. Hopkins wouldn't have stayed in the pocket with Toney, and I'm not sure if Toney would have been able to cut the ring off and force Hopkins into a dog fight. And Holyfield-Qawi... man what a fight. Evander's my fav fighter of all time so any time he fought my emotions were on a whole other level lol.
