Comments Thread For: Oleg Maskaev: No Retirement, I Plan To Return To The Ring

Russian former WBC world heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev is planning to return to the ring this year at the age of 48. Maskaev last fought in 2013 and was riding a three-fight win streak when he hung up his gloves after outpointing British Mike Tyson-conqueror Danny Williams over 10 rounds in Krasnodar, southern Russia.

This has truly been a golden age for washed up heavyweights. I wouldn't retire either. All the guys who have been shot for years still end up getting shots at titles.

Oleg was a good fighter but his chin was a weakness much like David Price. He could dish it out & had some good skills. If he got caught flush he was done. He had a sneaky power left hook. He was a warrior & came back from what should have been career ending losses. He is a perfect example of why David Price should not give up. At 48 maskaev will get crushed. He got floored by Jason Gavern & needed 10 rounds to beat him & 10 rounds to beat Danny Williams. Both guys punch resistence was gone by that point in their careers. A sign that he could get hurt if he fights anyone with a pulse. Let him fight Tarver, Grant or any of them mid 40 HWs...

I always wished Vitali would have gotten the pro rematch to prove who the man was. In fact, I still would love to see that fight. Vitali would still mop the floor with Oleg.
