    • How many unified (all belt) champs are there in boxing right now? None. But the author seriously begrudges Golovkin trying to do something that will put him in the history books? The author seriously begrudges Golovkin trying to face another p4p fighter in Canelo, which undercuts his own argument. If that fight doesn't happen then Golovkin will still need somebody, if it does happen it's an opponent equal or better that Jacobs.

Has Jacobs even asked for an immediate rematch? I never heard him say he wanted to be ready to do it again in June. Why the faux outrage on Jacob's behalf?

nice article Mr Fitzsimmons, props to you Sir

not one mention of that super-****ty WBA regular title

        the following, is gold.....

"You want to save boxing and bring it back to some semblance of public consciousness, have your champions -- like Triple-G, in this case -- stop this "I need all the belts" nonsense. It's an easy path to easy fights, rather than forcing him to pursue greatness with another Jacobs fight, or by moving up."

aboutfkntime someone called out GGG on his bullshht

this journalist retained his honesty and integrity, how about some of you other hacks do the same
You would give props to anyone who criticised GG.

It makes no sense to pursue Jacobs again right now, when he has the OPPORTUNITY to fight for the only remaining belt.

        What's wrong with you?

The quicker he fulfils his dreams of obtaining all of the MW belts, the quicker he moves up to SMW which is what you've been demanding.

You should be glad he wants BJS next. Potential fights against the likes of: Canelo, Ramirez, Chavez and DeGale etc, are obviously going to be much better fights than fighting Jacobs again, or any mandatory opponents if he chooses to remain at MW for any longer. The sooner he wins all of the MW belts, the sooner he moves up. It's a good thing.

You ask why GGG would want to be unified champion in his division rather than rematch somebody he just barely beat on saturday. Perhaps you should try to gain the mentality of a champion who is looking to history to remember his achievements...not how much money lined his bank accounts. You say that he is rolling along picking up "paper belts" instead of saying defeating "paper champions". Unifying actually improves boxing...it seperates the paper from the real...and forces anybody who wants the belts to have to follow lineage. How many splintered champions spend time avoiding real challenges just cashing out. Billy Joe Saunders is a classic example and the sooner golovkin removes him from the picture the better. Because if canelo gets that belt...unification goes out the window for another 10 years...and the money masters who now run boxing will just continue to feed the fans shet fight after shet fight. Its the bug bear of all boxing fans...no true champions.
If team g string were interested in making history, the Ward fight would have gotten made. I give them credit for making the Jacobs fight but other than that it's been all talk big shyte but only accept easy fights and it looks like that trend will continue.

And he's not avoiding it for a bigger better fight. He is fighting a bum no one cares about for another belt that means NOTHING to 99% of fans.

When his fans cry why isn't GGG getting more love decisions like this is why.
            1. Floyd would never have given an immediate rematch to a guy if he'd been in GG's current position, where he had the opportunity to obtain the only remaining belt in the division.

            2. Billy Joe Saunders is not a bum.

There's no reason why he can't look to fight Jacobs again after he's fought for the WBO.

GGG has ZERO legitimate reasons not to give Jacobs a rematch. Division supremacy isn't about collecting belts. Its about clearly beating all the guys that people believe are the best in the division. That's a solid number of folks that feel GGG lost to Jacobs. Even more that think the fight was close enough that had Jacobs got the decision, it would have been just. Give the man his rematch. Beat his ass. Remove all doubt. That's what real champions do.
bravo great post. I swear these guys act like we are speaking another language and can't grasp this simple point.

Put the Ward/g string fight to rest. Fights never gonna happen. Team g string flat out doesn't believe g string can beat Ward. If they did this fight would have happened already.

One guy got dropped and it wasn't GGG and 3: One guy won and it wasn't Jacobs. That's what matters. GGG and his team are looking at the big picture. All this bull**** about GGG ducking a Jacobs rematch will be forgotten. At the end of the day you can't duck a guy you fought, beat and dropped.

Secondly, I know you don't care about GGG's personal goal about collecting all the belts. Here is something you haters don't realize. f GGG gets all the major belts in the middleweight division anyone who wants to make any noise at 160 has to fight him. As long as one of those "trinkets" is floating around guys like Canelo, the Charlo brothers etc. have the ability to work around GGG. They could win a belt and spend the rest of their careers beating mandatories and hand picked opponents. If GGG has the belts they don't have that choice. If GGG has all the belts then all their accomplishments at 160 are meaningless. So is it about GGG's personal goals about securing his legacy? Hell yes. But it also gives GGG the leverage to get fights he might not get otherwise. Lord knows GGG only got the Jacobs fight because Jacobs had to fight him. Otherwise we would have seen Jacobs/Mora 3: The electric bugaloo instead of that great fight.
And what you d1ckriders don't understand is that his belt quest is just a fancy excuse to chase mediocre fighters. What has his belt quest done as far as getting him fights? Canelo didn't give a **** about his belts. Jacobs cared so much about the belts, he blew off the IBF's silly second weigh-in. Hell, Felix Sturm dumped a belt not to fight him when most people didn't know who GGG was. So it pretty much renders your claim of making everybody go through him as a reason to chase bum ass paper trinket holders.

                  • Good article by Lyle Fitzsimmons.

All he's saying is that ''collect all the belts'' is just a milkout excuse to not seek better challenges for what's being sold to boxing fans. Is Jacobs better than BJS? I think Jacobs KOs BJS.

                      1. Floyd immediately rematched every close fight he ever had.

                      2. BJS is a bum.
