It's boxing, knockdowns happen for different reasons.
Many fighters have taken shots off hard punchers but been dropped or hurt by guys who aren't punchers. Sometimes you don't see it coming, sometimes your legs aren't positioned right to take the shot, sometimes it just hits you in the right spot and on the flip side, sometimes you're braced for the shot or in a position to ride the shots and take the impact out of it.
Look at Amir Khan, he's been dropped and rocked by guys who weren't known as big punchers yet Maidana couldn't really drop him or finish him off even though he was hurt because Khan knew the potential danger and did everything he could to take the sting out of Maidana's shots. Sometimes when you're expecting the power, you can take it better or aware enough not to meet the shots halfway and get hurt, so you ride the shots.
Jacobs did a great job of taking the impact out of a lot of GGG's shots on Saturday, smart boxers can do that which is why you can't steamroll every guy near the top level, just like many big punchers haven't. He did get dropped by the one he couldn't do much about in terms of setting himself up to ride the shots or position himself correctly. That's boxing for you.
You can tell most people on this forum have never really been around boxing in real life or even been in a fight or anything.Last edited by deathofaclown; 03-20-2017, 03:05 PM.Comment
