Comments Thread For: Lemieux: I Told You What I Would Do - That Was a Checkmate!

In a match up that was guaranteed to end in a knock out, David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) lived up to his promise of taking out Curtis "The Cerebral Assassin" Stevens (29-6, 21 KOs) in a jaw-dropping third round stoppage to claim the WBO Intercontinental and WBC Continental Americas Middleweight belts live from Turning Stone Resort Casino and televised on HBO Boxing After Dark.

Against GGG, Lemieux was a bum yet Oscar named the winner as a potential opponent for Canelo's next fight. I'm certain Lemieux will go from being called a bum to suddenly being a threat against Canelo.

Lemieux is a B- fighter at best and Stevens is a C level fighter. It was bound to be an entertaining fight for as long as it lasted.

With that said, the fact that lemieux wants another shot at GGG means he's either delusional or suicidal. Anyone that disagrees can go back and watch their first fight.

lemieux has never been a bum and is definitely a threat to canelo. with mayweather beating canelo with skills canelo has always been bigger, stronger and heavier than his opponents.and when he gets hit he gets agitated and fights sloppy. Lemieux is a natural middle weight and can toss the leather.he is a serious threat to canelo.

Brother I'm not calling Lemieux a bum, I'm speaking of the Canelo fans who went full ****** calling Lemieux a bum. If he was ever to be put in there with Canelo, the Canelo fans would suddenly say Lemieux is a threat and no longer a bum. I've always said you can't downplay what GGG did to Lemieux, it takes a skilled fighter to do that to Lemieux.

I don't about A level, but both boxes are pretty good.

Since fight was announced I have been saying that Jacobs has more than a punchers chance and that Golovkin is past his absolute prime on the cusp of his 35th birthday.

But that Lemieux win last night has me revising my opinion a bit. We all know about triangle theories right. But when you look at a boxer's track record, all of his fights then that is more telling and ESPECIALLY so when the fighter being discussed is no longer a prospect. In other words when all the cards are on the table. Prospects we just don't know enough.

I like to look at the opponents of the opponents and especially to see what they have done since. Quillen is Jacob's best win by far but if you look at Quillen's record it was padded. His best win was maybe Rosario or N'Dam. No-one else stands out. And since the Jacob's fight he hasn't fought - jeez that was a traumatic loss for him. But .... could it be that Jacobs just caught him cold? There's a good chance. N'Dam is still doing his contender thing. The damn guy is an enigma and I'd avoid betting too much on his fights except on number of knock downs lol.

Meanwhile Lemieux looked very potent last night. I'm not reading a huge amount into it because pre-fight I said that Lemieux would win as Stevens knows more how to lose. But .... even so, that elevates Golovkin's win over Lemieux in my eyes.

And enough for me to think that Golovkin is a level above anyone Jacobs has fought whereas that isn't the case vice versa. Despite Golovkin being on the other side of his prime-parabolic-curve, unless there has been major slippage since September, which I doubt, then I fully expect Golovkin to do to Jacobs what Lemieux was doing to stevens in last night except it'll be a tko and not a ko.
