  • Comments Thread For: Demetrius Andrade: I'm The Best at 154, I'll Get in With Anybody

It will be a weekend of firsts for Demetrius Andrade, but as he prepares for his first pro fight outside of the U.S. and his first fight as a world title challenger, the Rhode Island native is calm, cool and collected as he conducted an interview at 11pm local time in Germany on Wednesday.

If there is a tournament at 154 then Andrade better be in it

He's working with Sauerland for this Culcay fight so that's a good sign

Damn he's already 29? He's wasted so much of his career, his only big fight so far was vs Vanes.

          Another unproven self-entitled fighter.

All talk no real desire to back it up.

            154 is garbage.

The only guy that had the balls to face Lara, win or lose, was Alvarez and Vanes.

Charlos, Andrade, shıt man they been spooked of the Cuban Missile Crisis. However, Lara vs Jermell or Lara vs Andrade are mega fights!!!

PBC must save the day. Or else it's time for Lara to move up

I like Andrade. I think he's the "real deal!" He's saying all the right things NOW, but he lost cool points last summer:

              July 4, 2016:

“Don’t get me wrong. Lara is an interesting fight because he also is slick. But that last fight against Vanes Martirosyan, he tried to stay in the pocket a little bit, he felt comfortable with somebody he’s already fought before, which I don’t know if he’ll do that with somebody like me,” Andrade told BoxingScene.com late last month.

I don’t know. If that’s the last resort, than yeah, I’m going to take the fight,” he said.

But it otherwise doesn’t interest him as much.

“He won’t engage or try and make the fight entertaining, especially if it’s coming into my favor,” Andrade explained. “He’s just going to survive, try to run, try to do the little pitty-pat counter punches. I’m not about that right now. I’m about sitting in there, doing what I need to do best, and letting the fans know that I’m willing to get in there with anybody and put on a show and make ends meet.”

Interestingly, while Andrade doesn’t want the WBA “super” titleholder in Lara, he would be OK with facing the secondary titleholder, Jack Culcay, who holds the sanctioning body’s “regular" belt. Andrade doesn’t know much about Culcay.

I like Andrade too. He totally out-classed Nelson who is a legit 154 contender. But Andrade has to be the worst promoted contender-level fighter in boxing. (worse even than Rigo) And he does himself no favors either by saying crap or going along with dumb moves of his promoters.

Andrade vs any of Hurd, Jermell, Lara, are great fights.

I don't want to see Andrade vs. Jermell or Hurd next! I want to see Andrade vs. Lara ASAP! What's the point of fighting the WBA "Regular" Champion, if you have no intention of fighting the WBA "Super" Champion? I hope Haymon does another double/triple header at 154, with Lubin fighting the Charlo vs. Hatley winner, and Lara facing the Andrade vs. Culcay winner! Make it happen!
