When those financial reports were released during the Haymon trial, we found out quickly that Canelo's success isn't only significant for Golden Boy it's vital for their survival as a company. Canelo accounted for 107% of Golden Boy income in 2016. Without him they are literally nothing.

The likelihood of Canelo losing fans if he were to lose to GGG is quite low. But there's a chance he takes a lot of damage in that fight and isn't the same fighter afterwards.

So naturally, Oscar is a bit reluctant to match him tough. That's why we're getting these low risk fights with Chavez Jr.

I think promoters and some boxers TV executives are underestimating the public. People are not hung up on boxers being undefeated as much as these guys are. If a fighter is good and exciting, he will continue to be a draw even after losing. Need I mention Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Gatti, Pacquiao, Duran and so on. The list is long. We need to see good competitive fights, not undefeated boxers fighting stiffs to maintain an unblemished record. One reason I like Thurman is because he doesn't care about keeping his 0. Canelo is like Chavez, relying on putting huge weight back on after weigh in. I wouldn't give him better than 50/50 against any of the better middleweights.

But then what??? Who does he fight then?? You will only say now he's ducking Gilberto or DeGale. The MW is dog sht right now. Personally he would be better of staying at 154 where you have Andrade, Charlo, and Spence, Thurman both easily make 154.
