The Leeds-born star made the tough decision to turn pro after deciding she had achieved all her ambitions as an amateur.
But her American girlfriend Marlen Esparza – who won bronze to Nicola’s flyweight gold medal at London 2012 – has also made the leap at the same time.
She says: “My partner and I turned pro at the same time but it wasn’t something we decided together, it just happened.
“We train together, we don’t spar or anything, but we train alongside each other. It’s quite nice having my partner on the same training camps, otherwise we just wouldn’t see each other.
“Our fights are quite close together so we’re going through all the same things.”
