I'm a little busy this week and wanted to make a detailed post but cant
First time I went to see a live boxing match.
Long story short Sho's broadcoast from camera man blocking views for matchgoers at Barclays to the broadcast commentary itself is very biased and poor. In the arena, many of the people who were there for Thurman (maybe the majority) even started booing him as he because more evasive. About 8 times, with Thurman running people booed him. It wasn't as warm a reception as you would count.
The broadcast also did a poor job at several junctions of the fight, switching angles a half second too late. Ie that first round when Garcia got hit b the overhand right, honestly, his body contorted, his entire body weight went down on one foot like when he hit Khan with that hook. Kid got a chin, and I don't know how the **** he stayed up.
Honestly in the arena, Danny looked the more agressive fighter, and Kieth so inactive that I was shocked to find Thurman the winner. Just because of how inactive he was in the latter half of the fight. Sitting in section 23, I had a good clear view, and with only so much time to score, I came to appreciate the judges jobs:
It is tough to weigh effective aggression with ring generalship on the fly, in a fight like this, where sometimes angles are obscured for a number of reasons.
However on watching the broadcast at home I gave it 116-112 to Thurman. But there were rounds honestly that made me doubt his ability, and were painful to give to him....ie rounds where he would be backing up the entire round, Garcia coming forward and constantly cutting the ring off on the bigger guy (but not scoring effective blows, or getting off a power punch and making Garcia miss on return), but Keith landed the meaningful power punches.
RbR:
-thurman garcia
1- thurman power punches 10 T
2- garcia, more commanding jab, not missing like thurman, keith's last flurry can't win it 10 G
3 - started out even, garcia the one landing tho 10G
4- dominante thurman round 10T
5- huge bias by commentators, in the first 2 minutes of the round Thurman didn't land more than 5 punches. lots of oohs
and aahs tho. both fighters inactive. thurman walking garcia back a lot, but garcia is the only one landing shos
i give it to garcia, more EFFECTIVE aggression. 10G
6- very hard round to score. thurman started better, danny took over mid round, thurman backing danny up with jab.
both guys landing behind each other's guards . Danny showing quick hands 10T
7- Strong Thurman round, Thurman moves away from garcia's hook 10T
8- hard round to score between two inactive fighters - garcia backing thur man up
thurman throwing body shots behind danny's shell guard are beautiful. very subtle 10T
9- danny beautiful jab but thurman uppercuts 10T
10- very even exchanges, i say danny landed the more effective blows including jabs tho 10G
11- Thurman round? He kept running but landed the only meaningful blows. I can see people giving it to Danny for the more ring generalship,/effective aggressiveness to Thurman. 10T. One of the most regretful 10s I have ever given with a 'champion' backing up most of the round
12- ring generalship and effective punching by Garcia 10G
Tallies:
T 116
G 112
Any questions about Barclays, seating itself, let me know. Overall Keith is a pretty boring fighter.
If anything it was amazing to see Garcia in there. Kieth seemed the same height wise, equally as filled out, just with bigger delts/triceps/and a visibly longer reach. Garcia seemed to calm and collected. It was like he was walking around and breathing, that's how fluid and at ease he looked in the ring. A pleasure to watch and appreciate, and for me the more exciting fighter in the arena.
