I know who he is but I honestly didn't really know or forgot he trained Thurman, probably because he talks about Getty non stop.

If Dan had went about it any other way he'd be called a jealous bitter hater so instead he took the high and easy road and just praised Getty like Thurman does every time he takes a breath.

Giving honor to the man who was a major influence in his personal and professional life is a problem for y'all?

Wow. I guess Cus must have 'touched' Mike Tyson too.

I think the OPs point is that Thurman's trainer should get more praise.

What? Are you serious? You must be new to boxing...

Not at all, and I said in the thread i know who Dan Birmingham is. I always remember was Lacy's trainer over here for the Calzaghe fight and trained Dawson too in the past, i just completely forgot or didn't realise he trained Thurman because he always talks about Ben Getty.

To be honest, i'd never followed Thurman that closely either although i've seen plenty of his fights since about 2012 at least. He's just not a guy i've ever been that drawn to. I've probably heard or saw a hundreds times he was trained by Birmingham too when watching his fights. Just not sure why i never really remembered or realised.

I've always been a lot more familiar with trainers on the British boxing scene more so than America too. So i'm not gonna sit here and pretend to know everything like a guru as some forum members do.

Thurman is so lucky. If I went into a gym for casual reasons and ended up watching these guys and even sparring them at one point, I would had taken up boxing as a profession. Not saying that's why he did it but yea, you get the point.

Birmingham walks out with him and is the main man in the corner. If you see him you know who he is. -____-

Yeah man, some people are just put into environments that almost force them to be successful, as long as they put int he work. And of course you need the psychical ability to keep up with those guys, but even if you can't, you're a lot better off than most.

But yeah, I don't think I could take head and body trauma for my career lol. No bueno on that, son.

Thurman loved his mentored and when he past tragically he dedicated his career to him. It's called integrity and honor!!
Birmingham understands the reasons because he has young kids in his gym that he is mentoring right now who look up to him.
Most of the boxing gyms that are established to help youth develop social skills are just using the sport as a tool.
The percentage of kids who become state champs never reach the regional's or the nationals. Most never compete internationally and
less than one percent become pro stars!

Thurman gives back to his trainers goals and supports the local
                      kids in his area.
