Comments Thread For: David Haye is Set To Have Surgery, Boxing Future is on The Ropes

DAVID HAYE is set for surgery on an Achilles tendon injury. The former WBA heavyweight champion remained in hospital following his 11th-round stoppage defeat by Tony Bellew on Saturday night. Haye, 36, went over on his ankle in the sixth round of the clash at the O2 and managed to survive another five rounds despite being barely able to move around the ring.

In my mind, this happened as a result of past events, when Haye pulled out of fights due to injury. The vitriol aimed in his direction after pulling out of the Fury fight stayed in the back of his mind, and he didn't want to be labeled as that guy.

That said, he probably also figured he's be able to blow Bellew out so quickly, that he decided to take the risk.

It all backfired, and now he's ****ed.

Misfortune coupled with hubris toppled Haye.

        Such a shame.

Haye never had the body to compete at heavyweight.

He used steroids to increase muscle mass, and tried developping an ambush style too taxing for him.
It was never going to work against top heavies, and the Wlad farce showed it.

Haye should retire anyway. Even if you had him up before the injury, he wasn't looking great. He's not even half the fighter he was. Bellew was competitive up to that point anyway. I think Bellew might be a bit underrated in a way but no way a Cruiserweight Bellew lives with Haye when he was anywhere near his best.

His timing and distance was WAY out, and i think to the point of no return. He just looked like a shot fighter who has spent too long out of the ring, too many injuries and whatever else. That shoulder surgery has messed his right arm up aswell, he can barely throw a good straight right anymore, he has to loop it awkwardly.

A 37 year old Haye post surgery and a defeat will be even worse than last night. If he continues to fight then he goes back to fighting journeymen because Haye cant compete with the elite anymore.

                  As expected.

I think he'll look for a rematch after surgery and call it a day.

Bellew also plans just one last big fight this year but it wont be against Haye.He wants Wilder or Parker/Hughie Fury winner.Win,lose or draw Bellew retires after that fight because as quoted "I have only 12 months left in this sport"
