The DLH Strategy Almost Cost Thurman

I immediately identified it, and many people here obviously did, too. It's been mentioned several times now. Thurman's decision to circle while barely engaging nearly cost him last night's decision. Keith should've known better. The De La Hoya-Trinidad outcome is well-known to boxing fans.

I think it was in-between the ninth and tenth rounds that Thurman's trainer told him to "be smart." The implication was clear: "Don't get overly aggressive and get caught." I couldn't agree more. But that's a far cry from running around the ring and avoiding contact. Keith gave away the last two rounds and made the contest much closer than it should've been. Thurman's not a dumb guy, but he was ****** to think that boxing judges could be trusted to score a fight fairly. Case in point: one judge had the fight for Garcia. Ridiculous.

Him and Birmingham need to address this issue. He did the same thing vs Porter I believe. Last two rounds he could had done what he did the previous rounds, hit and move and not just move (for the most part anyway).

Exactly. He just needed to keep doing what was already working, not get wild and leave himself open to a bomb. That strategy of "coasting" the final rounds pre-supposes that the judges see the fight the way you do. Really, really bad idea.
