A lot of people talked about Chad like he's a future ATG light heavyweight, now he just got knocked out by a Polish bum who was knocked out by a construction worker.
Chad was always underachieving. Although he has the talent to be a great fighter, he never had the mental toughness to be a great fighter, and he was always replacing trainers all the time which made his situation worse. He was done after the Stevenson fight.

We all know that sometimes heart can beat talent.

What isnt noted as much is that no matter how much talent a fighter has
with a certain amount of heart you cannot and will not be an ATG.

Chad Dawson may have had all the talent in the world, but I am hard pressed
to remember a time he showed heart enough to translate into victory.

I am not saying he had no heart because you have to have something to climb into that ring.

But, there were times in his career when he could have and should have beared down and didn't.

Man,, posters crapping all over chad Dawson... dude is well past his prime, but in his prime he was a legit p4p guy..

            "No heart"
            "Can't translate talent into wins"

Like wtf... I remember when it was Dawson, lacy and Taylor all being groomed to be stars.. Dawson accomplished a lot..

            2 wins over Hopkins
            2 wins over tarver
            2 wins over glen johnson
A getting off the deck and beating a prime adamek and taking his '0'

The only real quality that Dawson lacked was ring generalship.. he never really figured out how to control the pace and action in a fight.. he couldn't make adjustments

But the guy was a legit elite fighter in his prime

His skills never fully developed because he was replacing trainers all the time. The guy had 10 different trainers (literally), there is something wrong with him. You saw what happened when he got rid of Floyd Sr and hired Eddie Muhammad, his skills eroded he looked worse, and it happened again when he replaced Emanuel Steward with John Scully. You have to question his attitude and mental toughness when he's getting rid of one trainer after another and it doesn't do any good for him. He clearly has a confidence issue so you have to question his heart as well.

I can agree with that... that's kinda why he always struggled with ring generalship... the dude couldn't make adjustments, and I don't think bright enough to set traps or understand his trainers.

But he was an incredibly talented and successful boxer, regardless of his mental limitations.
