Comments Thread For: Loeffler Believes Gennady Golovkin is Poised For a Huge 2017

On Tuesday afternoon at the Wild Card West Boxing Club in Santa Monica, California, unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) spoke optimistically with the gathered media about how his 2017 will be much more productive and fruitful than last year. In 2016, Golovkin only fought just twice against the likes of Dominic Wade and Kell Brook. He usually fights at least three to four times a year.

If he can fight Jacobs, Saunders and Canelo it'd be a very good year, but this ish never works out. Even 2 out of the 3 would go some way towards making up for a very lackluster 2016.

I doubt he gets Canelo, regardless if he accepted the offer GB made or not. I think the Chavez fights going to be fun and do great and a rematch in September will be even bigger.

Golovkin will be lucky if his year is:
      March - Jacobs
      June - Saunders
      Sept - Khurtsidze/Langford
      Dec - T.Johnson/Derevyanchenko/Charlo

This will sound like heresy, but I think that Loeffler and K2 are trying to price themselves out of the Canelo Alvarez fight. In effect, he is saying that beating Jacobs improves his negotiating power for the Alvarez fight. At the margin, the size of the PPV gate depends on the interest of casual fans, but few casuals have even heard of Golovkin, much less of Jacobs. Beating Jacobs does not move the needle for GGG unless the fight does huge PPV numbers. As others have pointed out, if PPV numbers are small and the Canelo/Chavez numbers are big, even the $15 million offer may disappear.

Yeah I'll be happy enough with two out of three. Jacobs, Saunders AND Canelo sounds way too good to be true

When the guy asked his question, Canelo looked to the sides to see if Triple G was around and then said "Ay Guey, no me asustes".

Saunders is absolutely not going from looking like a pile of dog shit in his last fight straight into a (relatively) low paying fight with Golovkin. He'd rather milk that belt and fight Canelo for twice as much in September.

Yes, and you are right about the Chavez-Canelo rematch - it should do great biz in May and assuming it's not a total wipeout then September makes business sense even if no sense from a sporting point of view. I hope Chavez wins and insists on 168 for the rematch.

Where have you been? A Saunders/Golovkin deal has been leaked to multiple media people like Fat Dan and Steve Kim. It's official announcement is simply pending the Jacobs outcome. How and why do you think BJS was able to pay off Khurtsidze to fight Langford. BJS is looking to cash out. Like he said, his next opponent will be the top guy and it should be in the US but instead it'll be in his home country.

Saunders is actually looking in top form right now as he's been training under Adam Booth. I wish he would've fought Khurtsidze prior to Golovkin, but oh well.

I see that only the GGG trolls and sycophants are commenting. "GGG is one of the greatest middleweights ever."--Roy Jones Jr.---They're all avoiding him period.

Jacobs, then Canelo, then Chávez Jr or move up to 168.
