Canelo would be more respected as the lineal champ if he had defended his claim by fighting legitimate middleweights. If you are saying that he deserves to be called the man in the division because he beat one guy at 155 18 months ago, then why not allow world champions to call themselves champs long after they have been stripped. A champion doesn't stay a champion forever unless he defends against worthy opponents, either set by an organisation or recognised by the boxing public.

One question that we don't have an answer to yet is whether all 4 belts would be on the line for this potential fight, given that Golovkin has so many overdue mandatories, the IBF, WBC and WBO belt will all require their belts defended before September. So even if all 4 belts were to be collected, I don't think the winner would be able to keep all of them, which may play a role in negotiations.

Lil G said no, canelo is going to offer me like 2 million because he knows I'll turn it down.

          Canelo says here's 10 million.

Lil G says I'm not going down to 155 no matter what you offer. 160 or no fight.

          Canelo says ok 160.

Lil G says 10 million not enough.

Canelo says ok 15 million take it or leave it.

Lil G says no. I want half and half.

It's obvious lil g is ducking canelo hard af.

The A side is making concessions to Mr. 97k to try to make the fight. Lil G is stuck on getting at least 40%.

Now tell me who doesn't want the fight?

This right here. So Canelo is lineal bc he came around at the right time (a weakened lineage tho). OK, fine, Cotto was an OK champ (if we overlook all the 155 BS), Canelo WAS the lineal champ.

18 months later, he's defended v. a welterweight, fought at Jr. Middleweight, and will have fought at Jr. CheeseburgerWeight.

He's vacated IMO. Or you can consider him still lineal, in which case, lineal doesn't mean squat.

If GGG beats Jacobs, who is #2 at MW, then he is THE MAN at MW.

Agreed, but somehow I don't think Golden Boy will let The Ring give them this recognition.

Canela already threw the WBC in the trashcan and GGG jumped in there to pull it out.

You really think Canela will give a chit about the IBF?

Cotto beat an old man hobbling around on one leg and defended the title one time against an uber driver.

                    He was a terrible champ.

You can have him there in your fantasy world. No real life record books or history will. Canelo is the lineal champ. Deal with it.
