sadly,,,he commited suicide. I think it was maybe a couple years ago. he was a very good ref

Mitch Halpern was a protege' of Richard Steele, and a very good referee. He was traumatized by his slow response to Gabriel Ruelas-Jimmy Garcia. Garcia died after Ruelas landed unanswered blows that Halpern wished he could have back. He refereed a Rosendo Alvarez, then killed himself shortly after.

i read that he shot himself over his wife or ex wife or girlfriend some **** like that, basically it was over a broad......sad becuase he was the best in the biz by far.

true.... when i first heard about his death i thought sombody was lieing or got his name mixed up with somone else, it was a real shocker to hear about his death.
