    Taboo in boxing?

Why only in boxing is tv ratings and boxer purses taboo to discuss.

Every major news outlet reports on athletes salaries and ratings of sports events. Althletes will often use a peers contract to negotiate their own. So why when a boxer does the same the gallery moans and groans? When a poster brings up ratings or PPV numbers it's "dumb" to converse about. Contracts and PPV numbers are news worthy. It's part of the sport. It's ofte discussed in the NBA, NFL, hell even UFC. It's important and the point isn't "do you get money from it why do you care?" It's part of the sport we love and often is the reason for many fights not happening. I feel it's fair game to discuss with out the troll comments (asking a lot I know). Agree?

I've been saying this for a while. We actually pay for the sport with our subscriptions and PPV buys. How you gonna tell me I shouldn't be interested in where my money is going? I'm skeptical of anybody hiding information.

Yea I'm a fan of the business of boxing in particular these days when most of the big names compete more often at the business level more than in the ring lol, but fair play to anyone who doesn't like to talk about that stuff.

I know some older cats, which is one of the stronger bases of boxing fans, think asking what another man makes or knowing about it is some beta type sh^t or whatever.

Most older cats don't like talking about it because in their day they didn't make much. So there wasn't much to discus, but they will bring up the OUTRAGES ratings fights were getting in the golden years. Fair to any one that doesn't want to discuss it, but what's the point to get involved in the topic just to say "I don't care, what does it matter".

Think it is because fights don't get made because of how much fighters get paid. Other sports you cant justify not facing someone because of them not being popular enough, not bringing enough money to the table.

You cant compare Boxing with other sports. Payment structure of Boxing isn't like other sports where the best generally get paid the most. Boxing is more like acting, Boxers get paid on how many people watch the fight, not all the time whos best. Ben Affleck and Tom Cruise aren't the greatest actors in the world, but some mad ****ers pay to go and watch their movies, same things happen in boxing. Best actors end up on some arthouse flick that makes a couple of million, similarly Lomachenko fights to a half empty 3,000 capacity arena

Ill bet you are a young person..You are not buying stocks, hence demanding to know where your money is going,in fact you know exactly where your money is going if you purchase a ppv,to watch the sport..Why do people care about how much X fighter gets its beyond me,not all people follow other sports and I really dont care if tom brady makes a trillion dollars..Its simple, fights are not longer made for something we do know, fighters get paid an exorbitant amount to fight the salkas and the horns of the world.

I don't think its that. I think its considered rude to ask or even know about other peoples money for many old timers. I mean there probably are some that don't like talking about it cuz of the disparity from back in the day vs now, but I believe most don't wanna know or care how much anyone is making. Its more about their own ethics or upbringing in those early years than jealously.

but they will bring up the OUTRAGES ratings fights were getting in the golden years.
Again I'm sure there are cats that will talk about the old day ratings vs today's ratings in much the same way as we can talk about the insane money today vs the humbler paydays back in the day, but I don't see that all that much by most of these older cats. These older cats just like the sport of boxing. They don't care how much Sam Langford or Floyd Mayweather made or how many people watched Muhammad Ali or Andre Ward on TV. They care about boxing, period.

Fair to any one that doesn't want to discuss it, but what's the point to get involved in the topic just to say "I don't care, what does it matter".
I can understand this, but this is a place for public discourse about boxing in every way possible that doesn't get you banned by mods.

So its probably bad etiquette if done too much &/or on a regular basis to the same posters, but we're all here to discuss things we agree with & that we don't agree with.

And I also think if you focus on the negative or dissenting opinions when most opinions are positive or moving the topic forward you are being a lil petty yourself or unrealistic by thinking everyone should agree with you or think you brought up something interesting or that they should care about.

Boxing is a shady sport with no overarching governing body dictating necessary aspects, such as obligatory release of salaries and rating information.

Boxing is just a sketch sport. We need a a centralized governing body, not 20 of them

Great educated input. Nicely put. You're a fine example of how discussions should go.
