Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Chavez Being Overweight Would Be a Slap in The Face

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. faces Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on May 6th in what is a highly anticipated clash between two Mexican stars. For this contest, a catch-weight of 164.5 pounds has been instituted. The last time Chavez fought this close to the middleweight limit (160 pounds) was back in September of 2012 when he took on Sergio Martinez.

It's not as bad a slap in the face as Canelo choosing to fight Khan.

It might be smart.20 years from now people will only remember who won and a win guarantees JR bigger fights than a loss

They know Chavez has a history of missing weight. That's what they are hoping for. I'm going for Canelo but at the same time i know why they want one million per pound over weight. They want to put added pressure on him.

why would it be a slap in the face for boxing and the fans if jr does that when 164.5 is already a slap in the face?
