So I've stated before that I think boxing would benefit from an official Boxing League. In my mind, this is how it would work.
- Each Weight Division has its own league (from Strawweight to Heavyweight).
- Fighters out of the top 20 don't take part in televised bouts and must toil hard to be recognized, so as to eliminate boxers feeling entitled after beating a handful of tomato cans.
- Victory earns points, and moves a mother****er up the log/rankings. A draw earns 1 point, SD 2 points, MD 3 points, UD and KO, 5 points. Disqualifications will lead to an overall points deduction, with multiple disqualifications leading to higher points deductions and suspensions.
- Once ranked, a fighter earns a set purse i.e 20th ranked gets $100k, $19th gets $120k, etc. Things like percentages come into play during title fights, and the percentage is SET, its not up for negotiation. So for eg 60/40.
- 20th fights 19th, 19th fights 18th, etc. Fights happen often, which means that if you're inactive, you slide down the ranking and lose your larger purses.
- Vegas only hosts title fights, with fighters ranked 3rd down to like 8th featuring on the undercard, ensuring high quality fights.
- ONE ****ING BELT PER DIVISION! ONE!!
- Catchweights used exclusively for bouts where fighters move up or down. I.e if the Crawford, who's a 140 Champ, signs to fight Thurman or Garcia, who are 147 Champs. If Bud can't make 147, they compromise.
- NO TITLES CHANGE HANDS IN CATCHWEIGHT BOUTS! If you want to be the 154 Champ, you make 154 (Sorry Floyd)
- If a fighter in the Top 10 of their Division moves up or down, they have to fight and beat a guy in and around their previous rank in order to be a ranked in the Top 10, else they fall out (Unless they move up after having vacated the belt). No Khan-esque moving up from 140 and immediately being ranked at 147.
That's how it looks in my mind, and I'm sure it has a lot of kinks in it. If any of you have ideas and such, post them below, and let's discuss this ****.
